Default Short Course Truck help with stock motor choice....?????

Here we go ....
I pulled my 17.5 Tekin a few weeks ago to put it in my stock 2wd buggy.

I put my Losi XXX-SCT back with the stock electronics. My track is small and the boosted brushless in the trucks is not a whole lot faster, just a lot smoother.
Anyway, the brushed motor fried last week.

Here are my options.....

I only have a Novak GTB ESC for brushless.
I have a Novak 13.5 SS motor that is good speed for Mod class.
I would have to buy new tires ($45.00)
We usually only have one heat for mod SCT (last week was none)

Or

I can pick up a 17.5 motor and stay in stock. ($85)
We always have two or three heats of stock.

If stock 17.5, which one is good with a non-boosted ESC????
I want to stay brushless from now on????
The tekin 17.5/RS combo was good speed and torque for me.

Is there any motor that will be comparable with the GTB ESC?

I say run 17.5 that seems to be the biggest class at most tracks. The GTB is good but you can do a trade with Novak, send back the GTB and get a discounted updated esc. Keep the 13.5 mod class is alway fun. Get some good lipos and tires and your good.

I personally like the 17.5 ballistic motors. I ran one for awhile on a non boosted sensorless esc and it worked fine. Its just painfully slow once you are use to a 13.5 or anything boosted.

I like the ballistic the most right now because of being able to just buy stators for 32 bucks instead of a whole new motor at 80.

+1. Get a Ballistic 17.5 and you will be good to go. If you want the most out of a 17.5 look on Novaks site at the 1300+ motor.

So "stock" is boosted 17.5, and "mod" is 13.5????

I have Novak Ballistic 17.5 1300+ with a Mamba Max Pro in a spare buggy that my son runs sometimes just for fun, he normally runs mod. The boosted 17.5 is as fast as a 10.5, maybe faster, so if you are going to run without boost the 1300+ is a great choice.

I think 10.5 is the slowest mod motor anyone runs here in Mod SCT. My son runs an LRP X-12 9.5 in Mod SCT.

What is this 1300+?

Just looking real quick everything looks the same except for maybe a stronger magnet rotor?

The only place i saw it was under "build a ballistic"

Mod is open, boosted.....
It is just that I have a 13.5 and that will put me in the mod class. Our track is so small that not much more is needed in 2WD.

Generally speaking. Stock is unboosted and 17.5. Superstock would be the same at 13.5.

We run a superstock which allows 13.5 and/or boosted 17.5. Kinda modified rules based on what most people have around here. Lots of tracks have their own rules based on what is going to be popular in that area.

Stronger rotor and ceramic bearings.

It makes a difference.
