Default Mugen eco set up help needed

Hi Guyz, I am new to electric after 10 yrs of nitro. Just got my mugen eco buggy and mamba 2200kv. What battery set up would be best for this motor? Brand? I have seen the thunder power 4s pro race 65c 14.8/5300 @$250 but would like to have your opinions on best run/power battery set up available. Is it better to have two batteries or run a single 14.8v I will be buying a solder iron also and will need all the cables and connections to complete instalation. What are the best connectors/solder/ and guage wire to use? Please go easy on me as i have really no experience with electric cars so i need all the help i can get.

Thanks in advance and please share your knowledge

Although the thunder power batteries are excellent, there is really no needto spend so much money. I have bought and used turnigy batteries from hobbycity (50$) that have worked great, and have bought sky lipos from hobbypartz(40$) and liked them also.
These seem to be the best deal out there, altough they are currently out of stock at the moment---- http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-40c-50...-hardcase.html

Then all you need to do is solder on your choice of battery connector(Iuse the traxxas high currenct connector).
And , if your gonna stick w/electric, get yourself a good soldering station like this

i would get 2 of the gen ace lipo's from hobbyparts 5000mah 40c hard case, they are good batteries, I would install everything with 12ga wire and use 4mm castle bullet plugs for the batteries as the stock bullet connectors that come with them are junk

get two of these
http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-40c-50...-hardcase.html
the car is setup for dual 2s packs, so you can run these, the advantages are you can stagger the batteries for wieght distubution and if a cell goes bad you only have to replace one 2s pack instead of the bigger more expensive 4s packs. Also you can charge these fast with most of your common chargers, where a 4s pack you run into charger limitations (50w charge limit will take you almost two hours) and it can take a long time to charge them.

i've been using these with good results.. USA Cali warehouse, order over $100.00 and they have 1 cent shipping..

never had a problem with hobbyking orders.. hobbypartz on the other hand sucks for customer service..

Whats the average run time from lipo's? I have been noticing on a heap of online videoes of buggy racing that the new brushless/battery combos are running rings around nitro's. They seem to accelerate and even look like they are more nimble. The speed they get is unbelievable
So you think it will be better to have two batteries, say 2 x 2s or single 4s? Which is a quicker set up from the two and longer run time?
Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks guyz...

had a question about what size 4 cell lipo will fit in the monster conv kit? i have a turnigy 5000mah but i wanna try something different. i think they might have lost some go juice. they will not last 10 min for a main.

i did cut the back of the tray to fit a longer batt. any help would be cool.

one more, can you bring back a 4 cell lipo? the voltage is 7.8. does that mean it's toast?

will the turnigy hard case batt fit in the batt tray for a monster conv? thanks

Hi Nova, the battery tray is set up for two 2s bullet connector type lipos. Your easiest option is to buy those types of batteries. To use a single four cell you will have to modify the battery tray by removing the sidewall at the angled corner. I did it with a dremel and it was no big deal. I have used turnigy batteries from hobbyking for a long time now and I am very happy with their performance and reliability. My advise to you would be to buy four two cell hardcase bullet type lipos from hobbyking or hobbypartz in the 4000 to 5000 mah range. You should get a charger that can charge a 4s lipo at 10 amps so you can charge two of your packs at the same time. I use the hobbyking eco6-10 charger.

I get about 20 minute run times practicing with a 4s 5000mah battery.

Deans connectors are the most popular.

i noticed on amain hobbies in a customer review on the mugen mbx6 eco who says the protek battery, ProTek R/C 4S "Supreme Power" Li-Poly 50C Hard Case Battery Pack (14.8V/5600mAh) (ROAR Approved), is a perfect fit in the battery tray. I am leaning towards some of the cheaper 2s batteries like aaron advised and will get 4 to be able to have a back up pair on charge ready to go.
I recently purchased a venom pro plus charger and hope this is sufficient to my needs.
When selecting amps setting on charger for lipo , is there a recommended amp setting to suit each battery brand? Is it recommended to use lipo safe charge bags?
Which is the better buggy between the mugen eco & Losi 8ight E?
Looking forward to my new eco! Can't wait till i get it running.

Hi Nova, charge rate for lipos are dependant on the lipo you have. Most tell you the max charge rate in terms of C rating. If you have a 5000 mah battery and the max charge rate is 1C then charge them at 5 amps. If the max charge rate is 2C then charge at 10 amps, and so on.
Charging bags are a safer way to charge lipos, they are cheap and easy to use. I would suggest them.
I went from a Losi 8 to the Eco and there is a huge improvement on the way the car handles. In my opinion the Eco is far superior.
BEC? Depends on the speed control you are using. Momba monster or RX8 does not need one, some guys use a BEC when they use the momba max pro.

Have you changed anything on your set up from factory? What pinion are you running? I have the standard one that came with the mamba combo which is a 18t
Cheers.
