When I baked my old t4 tires off I used foil under the tires? I left them in about 10-12 minutes and once they cooled, they were just as easy coming off the rims as putting new tires back on the wheels. Even the left over glue on the wheels just peeled off in one sheet with no effort at all.

the directions i found told me to preheat the oven to 350, then turn it off when i put them in. should i leave the heat on for the 10 minutes?

I put mine in for 20 minutes @350, never had a problem. Leave the oven on and ball up aluminum foil inside the wheel so the wheel is raised off the cookie sheet.

The only thing, maybe the foil will let the tires/glue absorb more heat to loosen the hold. The towel might actually protect the tires/glue from taking in the heat???

Curious, did it stink up the house or area??? I've heard some say that it does so this past weekend I used the Acetone method. It worked OK, but I think it was mainly cause too cold out in the garage. If it had been warmer, I think it would have worked better

I've tried all methods, but acetone is really the best. Boiling works, but I found it softens the actual rims, and the chance of breaking them is high.Oven works, but is stinks, and again, plastic/rubber and a lot of heat isn't a great combo.

I had similar results with the oven.

I read about using a heat gun somewhere here on RC Tech and I tried it and works much better.

Keep the gun moving around the bead for 3-5 minutes and then simply pull the tire away from the rim. You will need gloves or a towel and some times it takes a good pull.

If it's stubborn, heat it some more and try it again. Repeat if necessary, it will work!

I have a question about using acitone.

Does it damage the tire at all? I have a few rims that got messed up but the tires are still almost new.

I tried acetone once and it worked, but it turned my super soft compound tires to just below rock hard. They were basically ruined.

Anyone know if the baking or heat gun methods change the tire compound? It seems the heat would basically vulcanize the rubber and turn it hard also.

I have never had any adverse effect to tires from using acetone.
