i, wouldnt count out the slash the stock setup isnt to bad acutally just make sure you check the supension and steering tierods because when i got my they will tight not in a good way !
other, than that just change the shock oil if you need to and make the rear body post as low as you can and it doesnt handle that bad really.
on, offroad well at least a "blown out track" you wont notice that the slash has high center gravity on a smooth track if you tune with the supension you can tell more that it has hcg but not real bad though.
take my word im competive with it in a spec/stock sc class with the others accept the xxx-sct
and this is with the stock electrics on the slash.
this is the 2wd slash im talking about.

[QUOTE=Tyler350;8719220]I believe the Slash 4x4 is the only RTR 4x4 SCT. The rest are all kits, however I find superior on a track.]
dont forget the ofna 4x4 RTR

Find out the rules where you race. No where around me (eastern pa) let you run the brushless rtr's in spec sc. Also find out if you can swap rtr tires at your track. If you can't the get the Losi xxx-sct. The tires are miles better than any other rtr. Start with 2wd trucks to learn racing, 4x4's are harder to drive WELL on the track with the monster power they have. Spec is made to learn in.

get the sc10 rtr i would change out the shock bodies to the teflon coated ones at least. but really the truck with a factory team setup off of thier website is an awesome truck. I am running a rtr that I basically upgraded to factory team specs. But you are talking very little difference in laptimes with the upgrades, most where for durabilty. Ie titanium turnbuckles, coated shocks with titanium shafts, strc fron alum bulkhead and a rpm front bumber.
The only thing you will need outside of driving that isn't in the box will be tires and wheels, springs, shock pistons and suspension mount blocks for the toe and antisquat in ther rear. That will allow you to put a team drivers setup like chad due's on it and go to the front of the pack if you can wheel it.
One other thing is I would add the proline front and rear hex adapter kit to it and mount all your rims on proline zero offset rims for the pro trax. That way you can switch rims from front to back np.
Your other option would be a kyosho ultima rtr and add a brushless kit, springs tires ect.
Really there is nothing that comes race ready out of the box completely. If you did want the best out right now i think it is the kyosho sc-r kit that you buld yourself, add a castle sct kit and a servo to and for under $500 you would have the best of the best, just add jared tebo's setup to it.
