Forget the 5.5t - It's going to cause too many problems for you like heat, drivetrain failures, short runtimes, and lots of uncontrollable wheelspin.

You want something with plenty of torque which you can run a taller gearing and still avoid the heat bunnies.

These are great.

Sidewinder SCT combo

Sidewinder SCT Edition ESC
Neu-Castle 1410 1y 3800 kv motor
CC Blower fan shroud for 36mm motors

Plenty of power, runs cool, can handle 3S Lipo.

It's a buggy not a Sct.

Hobbywing has Sct motors n esc too.

But it's not suitable.

Yes they sell a 5.5/60a combo.
But, it says in the instructions, that it won't handle 5.5 turn motors.
Go with a 8.5 it will be plenty fast, and according to their specs its the fastest it will handle off-road.

We are talking about a HSP Buggy here not a fully hopped up B44 or TRF 501.

So I still say it will be very suitable.

If he puts anything with a low turn motor in the HSP it will all end in tears.

lol, lower turn motors are generally less efficiant and cause gearing head aches. the recommendation of the sc system is actually ideal for alot of 1/10 rigs in general. the new castle 4 pole motor has more tourqe then you can think of what to do with. look at the vxl line up..... all fly, using a 3500 kv motor, if you run a 10t or so, your batteries will thank you, as it will require less amperage to get the rig up to speeds, even if your geared to the moon. theyll run cooler, and have less cogging at low speeds. if you do go hk, dont get a finned bl motor unless you want to be burning it, they are usually 380 sized anddont handle any 1/10th well

The ezrun 60 amp is underrated.
The V1.1 was rated to 5.5t offroad, what they've done in the V2 one was they dropped the thermal cutout temperature low enough that anything below 8.5t will hit it. It cuts out at something like 65 degrees C now, was 95 with the V1.1.

So all you have to do is disable the thermal cutout, been running one in 4WD mod with a 5.5t for ages, and even in the middle of summer and with the fan quitting it didn't overheat.

Ezrun is very under rated, Running a 60a/5.5t in my 4wd buggy for awhile with zero issues.

The castle sct combo is SLOW in a 4wd buggy.

I just bought a 2wd Sc10 with a 4300 ezrun motor and a mamba pro esc.. I was wondering what be a good gear ratio for a small carpet "offroad" track? New to electric and don't want to burn it up due to the wrong gearing. I'm also thinking of turning the power way down with the esc because it's not really needed.. would this help with the heat issues?

I'd just use the same gearing the SC10RS uses. Would be a good start and should be pretty safe temp wise.
