Default How hot is to hot??

Hey everyone I'm running a rc8be with a CC 1800kv motor geared 17/44 on 5s. At our race on saturday i temped my motor after our 10 min main and the motor was 135. It probably cooled for about 5 mins before i temped it so no doubt it was over 140. Am i ok or is that to hot. Also my body has no vents in it at all. Should I put some holes in it? It was only in the 60's on saturday so im a little worried about when it gets in the 100's here in FL.

The temp range that you experience is nothing to worry about. As long as the temp doesn't go beyond 165-170 or you'll smoke the motor.

140 is fine IMO.. You really dont need to worry until the 180 ish range... I always cut some air holes for ventilation..

That sounds like some pretty agressive gearing. Im runnign the rc8be 1800kc CC on 5s w/ 15/48 and its geared about 35mph, you probably geared over 40mph. Im running in houston, and in the summer its hot as HELL. Thats when I run a heatsink and fan, drops my temps by 20 deg at least.

200˚ is too hot

Personally though......
180˚ is hot and OK sometimes even though I would not like it here consistently
No worries up to 165˚

motor - 200 it will die, 180 is too hot, 160 is ok for the end of a battery pack.

speedo - 160 (CC) it will die/shut off, 120-130 about normal after a long pack.

Put some vents in the body to help keep temps lower.

i always remove the windshield in the car/buggy and replace it with screen material and color it black with a marker. i use shoe goo to install it. in buggies it looks really sweet and lets all the ram air in you could want. i also do the same thing to the rear window if the back of the body is not open.

You might be too hot. You're going to be suprised how much the temps drop after a few minutes of just sitting there. Run it again for 10 minutes and temp it right when you pull it off. I'd bet you were around 160, which would still be ok in my book. But you need to be safe and re check it.

I personally don't like mine to get any higher than 160 after a main.

Well it sounds like i'm still ok. I switched to i 15 tooth pinion and i still have plenty of power for our track. I will give my body some more airflow and temp it next time i get to the track. It would probably help if i added a motor fan.

I got a integy motor fan mount, they're about 12 bucks and comes with a fan(it looked pretty crappy so I used one I got off ebay), helped bring the temps down about 10-15°. Can't remember the guys name I got them from, had them for about 2 years now, still work with a beating from 1/8 scale. BTW, the mount doesn't sit on the motor perfect so i used some small plastic ties to help secure it, 1 on each end, worked great. Going from 60° to 90° is big difference, I noticed a bigger greater change in temp than the obvious 30°. Good luck to ya. Dont know about CC, but Randy Pike from Tekin told me 180° is ok.
