lousy picture, but judging by the color alone, i'd say yes. at the VERY least it needs cleaning

Ya I know the picture sucks, how should I clean it, I dont have buggy blast but LosiFromHell986 told me that carb cleaner will do the same thing, is this true?

No... you misunderstood me, I said Carburator Cleaner works well for a degreaser on NITRO... not electric... No idea about that. You misunderstood me.

To clean it simply get a pencil eraser and rub the commutator.

I will not touch my commutator with anything other than motor spray, a lathe bit, or the motor brushes. I can't recommend a pencil eraser, comm stick, or any other little "trick".

After cutting your motor, use a header card to clean any shavings out of the slots in the comm.

When we wanted to begin testing the X - 5 this spring we wanted a motor that would run the longest with little or no maintenance. We were concerned with testing the car, not working on the motor. The 12 X 1 Orion Revos we used were perfect.

We ran the car, brought it off the track, made a suspension change, put new batteries in, and put it back on the track with the motor still hot. Sometimes we'd just bring it in, switch batteries, and throw it down again. On many days we ran 8 - 10 packs in four hours -- not a lot of time in the pits. It would have killed any other 12 X 1 we know of.

Both motors always gave us over 20 battery packs without cutting or new brushes. After our testing was over, Paul used one of them to win 4WD at the Indiana State race in Ft. Wayne. Once we ran a motor 26 packs, and cut it because the comm looked dirty and the brushes were 2/3 gone, not because the performance had fallen off.

I haven't looked at the picture, but I can tell you we start looking at the brushes & com after 15 - 18 battery packs, and cut & re-brush when we simply can't believe it's still running. A bit of discoloration won't hurt anything. I did NOT say let it get all purple! And, of course, I assume you're not over-geared.

Thanks for the info guys, Aaron Ill try that. In that picture I took it looks a lot darker then it does in persone, ill still cut it to be safe though its going on 15, 16 packs now so I think that it would be a good idea.

When you cut a v2 only make skim passes. I have found no real reason to hog out a ton of copper off of these motors. I have also found that they go soft about 2.5 minutes if they are slightly overgeared. A good indication that you have it too tall. Interesting part of that is that the comm and brushes still didn't discolor. Only talking about 1 to 2 teeth. My motor seems to run optimally around 140 - 145 in 80 - 85 deg weather.
