8ight-E 2.0 Motor and Voltage options
 
Ok, so i have recently sold my 8ight E 2.0's 4s batteries and Tekin 2050kv motor, and I need to get new ones. Before, I was running 2 Turnigy 2s 30c 5200mah hardcase lipos in series witht he Tekin 2050kv motor. The batteries were really heavy, 24 oz! Anyways, I am trying to decide on the best motor and battery combo. I want the battery to weigh a little less, as the chassis was a little unbalanced. I also need to get through a 20 minute main with practice on our large outdoor tracks here in Colorado. So I'm trying to figure out what to get.

Motor: Tekin 1400kv? 1700kv? 1900kv?

Lipos: 6s or 5s? Or 4s? What mah and c ratings?

1300-1400kv on a 6S setup is ideal. You can get like 20 minutes of run time out of just a 3300mah 6S lipo. I don't know the exact run times as I have not converted to this setup, but I do know this is the most effective.

i know i got over 20 minutes in my 2.0 with rx8 and 1900 combo.. geared 45 15 running 2 5000 40c 2 cell turnigy's if i ran till cut off it would be close to 30 minutes if not more. hope this helps ya out.

Can anyone giev me a link for 5s or 6s batteries to run with the 1400kv on our large outdoor tracks here for 20+ ,inutes run time? I am generally a fan of Hobbyking.

Expensive Hyperion is, but the best for the money period. up to 5c charge rates, and great "c" rating.
Personally, the 6c/low KV motor longer runtime may be partially true but I found I was always hammering it to get the wheel spin I needed, especially in the air to correct, more so for truggy. I like the 1400/5c, gear it up and has nice balance to weight ratio. For example I run the 5c/1550 combo in truggy.
JMO, take it for whats it worth.

I like the thunder power batteries. You can't beat them And the g4 stuff charges at 4c. Not many chargers can pump out 20 amps but it will be a fast charge. when we run 1/8 e truggys my buddy and I have the exact same setup except I run 50c and he has 40c. There is a difference on the track. Go for the 50+ C rating but it will cost you.

I think you need to understand that there isn't a huge difference in weight, performance or runtime between a 2050kv motor on a 5000mah 4s and a 1400kv motor on a 3300mah 6s. The batteries have just about the same amount of energy in them and they weigh almost exactly the same. Yes, the 6s system is slightly more efficient, but not much.

To get better run times find a more efficient, lighter weight motor and shave some weight off of your car. I run an inexpensive Leopard 1900kv 4060 motor that's about 60g lighter than a Tekin buggy motor. I get about +15min of run time with a 3300mah 4s Turnigy 35-70c (360g) with very little heat buildup. My car weighs 7.2 race ready.

Also make sure your drivetrain is super smooth. Drivetrain drag = waisted energy. Lastly, I think that lighter wheels and tires make a huge difference in run times also.

Run time depends on track and driving style. 6s/1400 works great though. A 3600mah pack should get you through a 20 minute main pretty easily though. The 5s/1400 combo is good too. A 5s 4200-4500 should make a 20 minute main.

typically, expect 150-175/mah a minute with 6s/1400 and around 200/mah a minute with 5s. 250-275/minute for 4s

Agree on the weight and run time.... see my 810e ultra lightweight thread. My car is 6.25lbs RTR and on 5s/1400. I only burn about 125mah/minute with that setup which means I could probably complete a 20 minute main with a 5s 2650 pack.

5s and 6s are much better on the ESCs and batteries though.

Regarding the batteries, I would've agreed with you about a year ago, but with the batteries coming out now, I still don't think there is much difference. You can get away with a lower "C" rating on a 6s system, but why mess around. The nano-tech batteries from Turnigy have impressed me, especially the 5c charge rating. Just make sure to get at least a 35-70c rating.
