These 550 and 1410 motors do not respond to timing the way a 17.5 will. In general the fewer turns the motor has timing will create more heat and less rpm gain. You're better off running a taller gear than bumping up the timing. 50% timing in dual mode is only 15 degrees. Dual mode is also mode efficient that fully sensored mode.

According to Randy Pike, running 85% current limiter is almost imperceptible on the RX8 and lowers the current draw quite a bit.

I'm happy w/ my 1410 until the new 4pole tekins drop

Ordered The carbon shock tower's and the Lightweight HD outdrives for the front center and rear.

I have my truck completely torn down right now and I think when I go back with it that I am going to try and ditch as much of the battery tray and the receiver tray as possible.

This is exactly what Viper recommends also... No timing on the 550's. You can run timing but you risk the over heating the ESC & motor.

I will post pictures here in a couple of days on what I decide to do on the battery tray.

I did not really word that well.. Boost or C'heat' mode is where I was going.. not so much motor or straight up timing. I agree in a high kv 550 you're better off w/ gearing.. for sure but don't forget I'm not talking about taking a 5000kv motor and doing this.. I'm talking about the 14mm rotor (3800kv) or similar kv higher turn on the smaller rotor and gear it properly if not on the low side then dial in some boost for the top end. I honestly didn't spend much time playing w/ these settings but what little time I did I found better temps doing this but I was using a castle MMp not the rx8 or a viper esc.

I run the 4.5 with the 14mm rotor.. Dont be afraid to put timming on the ESC. I run around 120F after 5000mah in 80F weather

Default motors

I have a Novak 550 4.5t and a Castle 1410. What motor would be better to use. I will be using a MMP for the esc. It is actually a Ten T converted w/ RC Monster kit. I'm going between the stock size sc tire combo and also 1/8 buggy tires. What diff fluids do I need to use. I have 2 center diffs. Thanks in advance for any help.

try the novak...

Check out the first page post one for Diff set ups and conditions

5-5-2 works well for most tracks

I am almost 100% positive you will have better luck with the Castle 1410 and less heat issues at the same time.

Default Scte Novak 550 timing issues

Took my truck to west coast today. I installed my 5.5 with the 14mm rotor on 17 tooth pinion. Was running for a while and seemed bait off lowered the timing to 20 on the motor and 10 on the rx8. It ran a lot better and cooler. Should I turn the motor timing down as low as possible and control most of my timing from the rx8? Or should I scrape this motor on such a heavy truck.

Default motors

How do I set up the MMP esc parameters to work with the Novak. I've got a Novak HV Pro but I think the power cap is blown. Thanks

Chase how are you guys calculating start/finish RPM's when setting timing? I learned a trick today but am curious to how others who run timing are figuring this out.

Ok I got a couple questions.

Who makes the best carbon shock towers for this car?

Has anyone here converted it to a buggy, if so did you like it?

is there any adapter to use 1/8th buggy 17mm wheels to fit?

LOL, you just asked 2 of the questions that I would like to know as well.

After taking off the bumpers and some other stuff the other day I got to thinking I might try mine as a buggy as it should handle a lot better and run a lot longer.

I would also like to know which adapter's would fit so I could run buggy tires when I am at home bashing because on 3s it seems that a good buggy tire will hold up better.

As far as shock tower's I just ordered the 4mm Carbon towers that are posted on the first page in this thread.
