Losi 1/10 TEN-SCTE ARR 4x4 Short Course Truck Thread

Has anyone really struggled with temperatures and run-time? I'm running the RX8 with a conservative setup(current limiter @ 75-80%, 10º timing advance, etc) and using both the Tekin SC4X 4.5 and Novak Ballistic 4.5 motors with 13, 14, 15t pinions with 2s 5200mah 40c packs and experiencing a lot of heat and very poor run times. For instance, running the Tekin 4.5(13t), I hit cutoff at about 7 minutes, with my esc at 140º and motor at 175-190º. With the Ballistic 4.5t, I made 8-ish minutes with a 15t at almost 200º on the motor, 150º on the esc. In the main I tried to run really conservatively with the Ballistic on 13t, and I hit cutoff at about 9 minutes. The pack took full capacity in the following charge.
The bummer is that I TQ'd 3 out of 4 rounds of qualifying averaging 3 sec faster per lap than the rest of the field(I just dicked around and had fun in the 4th round). Quals were 5 minutes and I made that no problem, gear was still hot.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I think I remember reading futher back that someone running a 4.5 had their CL at 50%, maybe you just need to back it down a bit more.
This is why I went with a 5.5, I didn't want to have to cut a motor's balls off just to prevent it from going thermal.
Edit: Make sure you have no drag brakes.

Clean all the drivetrain bearings and use some good bearing lube.....makes it much more free. Also use Mobile 1 synthetic grease on the ring and pinion vs. the stock stuff. Make sure you're not running drag brake. Last week the outdoor conditions were 90-95 degrees I'm running the Rx8 and tekin 4.5 motor...ESC temp 115 and motor 144-156...large loose track, 15 pinion.

With my 5600/65 c bat 5.5 motor with 15 t pinion I temp 155 and 12 min on small track 9-10 on a big open track .

I'm running an RX8 with a Havoc 4.5 (was running an SC4X 4.5 before, but it just stopped working, Tekin replaced it under warranty, never had any heat problems with it really).
The ambient temp in south Texas is well... retardedly hot. It hit 108F during practice this past Friday.
After a 5 min qual my truck came off at about 120F on the ESC and about 145F on the motor. My SC4X showed the same temps.
I'm running no timing, current limit is at 80%, with a 12T pinion, no drag brake. I've had more than enough motor for every track I've been to (including big outdoor 1/8th scale tracks).
Make sure your drive train is free and your mesh isn't too tight or it will definitely overheat your motor. A friend of mine had really bad overheating issues and it just turned out to be his mesh was way too tight. Fixed the mesh, no heat problems.

Jeff speaks truth. Hot as hell this weekend but I made 10 minutes on a TP 5300 65c / 4Pole / RX8 geared to the moon (17t). Speedo came off at 135 and motor 155 after the 10 minute main. Alot of it has to do with how you drive (throttle finger) and speedo settings.

It isn't as pretty after this past weekend but the stickers held up great! I'm going to try my best to do some testing this week indoor with it and see what it can do. If your fast with the SC10 I can only imagine how fast you would be with a real truck.. lol.. If soccer doesn't much up my schedule too much I'll be there.

Don't roll your eyes at me son... It's ALL legal... LOL

Battery wise I'm using the Dynamite 6000mah/25c's.

Wow, do you guys have any indoor tracks down south? I guess there's no need because you can race outdoors year round. I think I would pass out on the driver's stand if it was 118 out there.
