It seems to have gobs of power and it seems to be keeping up with my friends Tekin 4.5 setup. Power seems to be similar between the two, but I'm looking for a more experienced driver to help me test the Tacon motor. So pretty much I'm looking for someone who wants to try out the Tacon motor the only requirements for you guys is to have at least tried/owned a 550 motor or the castle 1410. And for you guys to keep us updated with the testing so send me a pm guy...I'm really looking forward to see want you guys think about it!
I vote Ridley for a tester... Killer driver, honest opinion. And he has tested just about every motor out there in the SCTe.

If it's only keeping up with the Tekin 4.5 550 motor it must be a 2 pole
because a 4 pole would blow the 4.5 in the weeds hands down. That's
why Tekin is building a new 4 pole motor, they are way faster then a
2 pole.

if the Tacon is a 4 pole and only just keeping up with the Tekin 4.5 550
it's a slug....

Is it normal for 10th scale esc to burn up when installed in a very heavy nearly 8th scale truck? yes.

I tried the rs pro in mine, cautiously, for curiosity's sake, and it thermalled in minutes. These really demand an 8th scale esc. Some folks are running the viper 10r in them, and they say it's fine, but I wouldn't.

Yep, that's the wrong esc for this truck. it's weight creates too much load for the RS Pro. If he's gonna use Tekin, he needs the RX8. If he wants to use castle, the MMP or MMM works well, most use an external BEC with the MMP though because of high powered servos. Or he can use the MMM 1/8th scale esc plug and play.

totally agree there, I think the initial increase was because word got out. But it's not just the 1410 now, they recently increased prices on their entire line of motors. But the word about a neo shortage is unfortunately very real. There was a thread about it here on RCT a few days ago and Novak confirmed their prices for it have gone through the roof and will unfortunately have to pass it on to the customers soon. Also there was a link in the thread to a non-RC related article about how rare earth materials mining is being decreased and will be producing only 25% of what was being produced. Now the question is, is it market manipulation by china as almost all of the worlds rare earths are being produced there, or is it because of pressure due to the hazardous nature of mining for these rare earth materials. If history is an indicator, it has more to do with market manipulation than their sudden concern for working conditions lol look into it, it's actually a pretty interesting issue since it not only affects RC, but any electric vehicle that uses rare earths in their motors or batteries. Toyota was so concerned about it for their Prius that they secured a big contract or bought a rare earth mine to ensure, they have enough supply of the materials needed for their hybrid cars..

That's just a photochop that Salad did. But honestly, I think it's awesome and would totally sell if someone made a heat resistant sticker set. Nothing wrong with having a little fun with our toy cars

I would make them, if someone found a place to print them...

I also do body wraps, have about 5 or 6 designs but have not had them printed (I call them SaladWraps).

Here is the Viper wrap.

Salad, I would run that in a second. I personally like the black.

I saw the avidrc plug on the first page. Do you guys recommend I replace it with that instead of the Losi ones?

I may just get into the habit of blowing that area out with the air compressor after each heat instead of at the end of the day.
Keep the comprssed air away from them it just blows the dirt thru the seals and screws the bearing

That's sweet. I can't do the black because we race at night and my eyes need a bright color. Can you do that in some bright backgrounds? I have a place that should be able to do them. I will see what it costs.

Has anyone really struggled with temperatures and run-time? I'm running the RX8 with a conservative setup(current limiter @ 75-80%, 10 timing advance, etc) and using both the Tekin SC4X 4.5 and Novak Ballistic 4.5 motors with 13, 14, 15t pinions with 2s 5200mah 40c packs and experiencing a lot of heat and very poor run times. For instance, running the Tekin 4.5(13t), I hit cutoff at about 7 minutes, with my esc at 140 and motor at 175-190. With the Ballistic 4.5t, I made 8-ish minutes with a 15t at almost 200 on the motor, 150 on the esc. In the main I tried to run really conservatively with the Ballistic on 13t, and I hit cutoff at about 9 minutes. The pack took full capacity in the following charge.

The bummer is that I TQ'd 3 out of 4 rounds of qualifying averaging 3 sec faster per lap than the rest of the field(I just dicked around and had fun in the 4th round). Quals were 5 minutes and I made that no problem, gear was still hot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I added the 14mm rotor and can go ten minutes on a 6000 mah for whatever that's worth. I also see heat (175-185) but never thermal.

Semple, if you need to make 10 minutes you'll need a bigger battery mah rating. Try 6000mah or more.

5200 won't get it done for 10 minutes.
