Im eyeing those hobbystar motors too. I used to have the castle 2400kv and ran it on 2s. I had to run a 20 tooth to keep up.....and it still lacked top end. I sold it this week and im looking for a more race oriented esc and motor. I really think its going to be that hobbywing esc.

Im looking at a few combos for sale....one is that esc with the hobbywing 3656sd 4700kv....im pretty sure its a 540 can though

It's slightly longer than most "540" cans but more importantly it's a 4-pole. Needs to be 4-pole to make a 4WD SCT really go. Even a 540 4-pole is very powerful generally. My SCTE 3.0 has the newer XeRun 3660 G2 3600kv.

Seems like a good deal indeed, that's roughly half of what a new combo would cost - assuming the XR8 is the SCT version, but if it's the Plus then it's an even better deal.

You won't get pins only, but they should be ok from other sets.It is quite standard. I use on some of my sctes those hexes: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RC-Blue-Alu...IAAOSwmOJaJ-eE

That is today's million dollar question .lol I wish I knew mine are all chewed up and I'm afraid I wont get a good measurement . I can only find kits with Hex's and pins and I only need the pins . I was hoping they would be the same as Traxxas or some other brand pins that can be bought separately .
