Agreed.

I was running a Castle 3800 with a MMP in my daughter's SC10. The truck was plenty fast and had great torque...once it powered up. Even when I drove it to test setups, etc., there was a pretty significant lag with initial throttle pull. I tried a few things to get around it but the lag was always there. She's now running a Ballistic 550 (sensored) and the truck responds instantly.

I have the Tekin Pro4 in my SCTE and its more than enough motor for me.

Sensorless IMO just are not consistant enough for racing. Great for bashing as complete control is not required and sensorless systems tend to be just a little faster as they don't control the motor full time but for racing go sensored.

Why not consider the Pro-4 in this list?
Tekin SC4X is a great sensored 550 2 pole motor as well.
Agreed, but primarily on smaller medium to high bite tracks (which are most the indoor and 1/10 scale tracks in SoCal).

The larger and looser the track gets, the harder it is, for me anyways, to tell the difference.

It is subtle but I can always tell when I run sensorless as I have a hard time hitting jumps the same everytime. I always feel more connected to my car sensored and again I see it in the consistance of speed going over jumps. The rest of the track it tends to be not as big a deal.

Out of his list I would go with the novak as it is sensored but keep a spare rotor on hand. They tend to depond over time.

I love the Novak 4.5 Ballistic 550 - my motor of choice - and I've run Pro4's as well, which certainly have the grunt as well but felt notchy. I also liked the 550 can Tekin 5.5 for short track work.

As far as "spare" parts - if you're going to have anything - have a spare motor. Anything can and will go on any motor - sensor board, rotor, front bearing. Be prepared!

one could easily make the argument that lipo discussions are more germane to SCTE's than whether or not your buddy is going to the track.

Next I guess you will tell us not to talk about motors, speed controllers, servos, or radios because this is still "the DAMN SCTE THREAD". Blow it out your "DAMN" a$$. That is all.

Are you running an RX-8?

If so, you are running sensorless at any speed over a fast crawl. The RX-8 runs in dual mode - sensored startup and switches to sensorless once the back emf is sufficient to locate the rotor position.

Yep you are right. The RX8 does not have a full sensor only mode. It is 100% better then the Xcelorin sensorless stuff I used to use on my 8th scale as well as other senesorless systems I have tried.
