Losi 1/10 TEN-SCTE ARR 4x4 Short Course Truck Thread

This OPINION is coming from a guy who could not understand why anyone would want to lighten the SCTE because I thought the fat pig handled better than anything I have ever driven. With that being said my truck used to weigh in at 6lbs. 8oz w/o the body, now it weighs in at 5lbs. 12oz w/o the body and I love it more that I ever have. Running less weight on the same tires gived you more traction. The track i run on is mainly hard packed clay with sand so it can get very slippery. The lighter truck doesn't have as much a tendency to slide as much. I am running the BCE chassis, lightned outdrives, and TLR tuning kit. It has the 4600 tekin motor, mmp esc and gensace 2s, 50c, hardcase packs. 5lbs.12oz. is with the battery and wheels, minus the body. I am running the Hot Bodies Megabites on de racing wheels.

I been bouncing back and forth between both the 4000 and 4600 tekin motors, would like the 4600 but wondering how low it has to be geared, the elite motor mount will only let you gear down to a 13 tooth pinion. How low has anyone had to gear using this motor?
I will do the 4000 if I have to but would like a little extra rip. there have been times were I wished the 3800 castle had a little more on the top end.
last time I tried to gear the castle for a little more top end (16 tooth pinion) I fried my dean conector from both sides.

Also Feint... The guys that race down at wcrc and ocrc are hella fast. I thought the guys I raced with was fast, but when I went up there it's a totally different league lol

Some people say that turning down the EPA on the radio is bad for your ESC. I think it's just a myth. I've never had to do it on any of my cars except when I had an 8.5 in my 2WD SC10 and there were no ill results.

I wouldn't suggest lightening the stock chassis. When we make milled chassis, we have to use a stronger grade of Alum to avoid bending/failures so I am confident you may have issues if you mill the stock Chassis.
Pacific Coast Hobbies (pchobbies.com) have the TLR Lightened Chassis instock, so give them a call @ 310-530-7127 if you are looking for one.

Here is a picture of what I was running, the entire battery surface area was milled I think 1mm and I then modified an aftermarket TC5 lipo mount which really braced the chassis along with the Traxxas Rod. I ran this set-up at the Alabama Manufactures Shootout, which is a huge 1/8 track and it ran great no bends whatsoever.

I do it all the time depending on the layout sense we get alot of layout changes.

Been runnin de racing wheels for the scte. I was at practice last nite and wanted to try a set of proline suburbs. Only indoor tires i dont have lol anyways a guyhad a set but the were for his kyosho 2wd which i believe were like 1/2 offset compared to 0 offset on the wheels i have. Anyways they did make my truck wider a little but wow was it more stable!!!! Probably too wide by roar rules but i think it did the truck well!!! Anyone else try these type of wheels out yet?

It's not a myth about turning down the epa. It makes the esc run hotter. Not a problem unless you are running right on the ragged edge of thermalling at 100% epa. I ran my truck at 100% epa and the esc was coming off at 200, my son ran my truck at 45% epa and it thermalled 3 minutes into his race at 240. Not a problem with an rx8 or mmpro, but I was trying an esc that wasn't recommended for this application.

i used to run the mmp/1410 combo and hae switched to the tekin 4600. speed wise, they are pretty close but the 4600 seems to get there faster and smoother. also with the tekin, you don't have that cogging lag if you happen to roll backwards a little.

I have seen a few stock chassis failures with out the milling. There are some great after market milled chassis`s available, so why bother? To each his own ! Just my opinion! For the average Joe who may not have the foresight or talent that You have, to run to his friends Bridgeport and start whacking away seems a bit too dangerous and possibly killing a good stocker!Mill away!!!!!!

But yea correct about the average joe

Never tried the 1410 so I really dont know how to answer this. The 4600 does feel great. Super smooth and plenty powerful. Running it with the 13t pinion. To be honest the motor doesn't feel any different after the truck is moving than my non sensored motors. I have always liked my unsensored motors and still do. Maybe one day I will try the 1410 to do a comparison, waiting for the 5mm shaft though.
