This week I set my truck up exactly like Dakota's set up sheet that Ryan posted. I race at the same track that the sheet was made for. My initial thoughts are that the damping seems a little heavy. I did convert the shocks to emulsion style. I'm looking forward to trying it out though.

I noticed that most of the earlier set ups used lighter oils. Are the heavier oils used with this setup because the track is fairly smooth or because the shocks were run emulsion style?

It was expected to be hot out there so the oils were up a little to compensate for the heat. Cooler weather or night racing might want to drop 2.5wt.

My front cvd pin is missing in action, and i'm trying to figure out if i can settle with getting it replaced, or need a new holder (or whatever it's called)

One of the holes it's intended to go in seems to have been significantly enlarged.

What do you say, pin replacement or the entire thing?

Thanks

That makes sense. I'll try dropping to 30wt. It's only been in the mid 70s in Union City for the last few weeks.

Where does this line if thinking come from? Silicone oils are tested to perform in a range of temps while maintaining their viscosity. Track temps are never above that range.

Silicone doesn't react to temp changes from what I've known over the years. Am I missing something here?

It is not supposed to but like everything it does have some effects. Temp just does not effect silicone as much as some other oils.

Some really good reading if you want to see more about our RC oils.

Look at the bottom for tempurature vs. cts data

ok so now my front shock tower has bent.

Can anyone give thier thoughts on Cf towers? Im sure aluminum will bend just as easy as these stockers. Or am i wrong? which ones are the choice?

Most guys go with CF towers. Losi offers stronger machined towers as well but these were more intended for use with the 810 where the towers were exposed and may get more direct abuse. Losi as well as a few other companies make CF towers for this truck.

Carbonfiber is the only way. They wont bend or break.

Guys on the emulsion shock is is supposed to have a little air in it? If i build it to where there is no air, I get a ton of rebound.

You need some air in this shocks. This is what takes up the void when the shaft is extended back out of the oil. The air mixes with the oil once you excercise the shock a few times but allows the oil to compress a little easier. So yes you have to have some air in the shocks.

It will find it's way in. So you should bleed the shock with the shaft all the way in the body as you screw down the cap allowing the extra oil to bleed out the hole in the cap. Once you extend the shaft again air will find it's way back in.
