HPI MT 2 converting to electric question
 

I am converting an MT 2 to electric. I am going to use a Novak 5800 for now. My question is, will the pinions for the MT electric???? have the same pitch as my slipper clutch/spur gear? What is the pitch? Any ideas on where to start for pinion tooth count?

Why are you switching it to electric? Most nitro to electric conversions usually cost more than just buying another electric kit.

I wanted an electric 4WD stadium truck ( none out there) only 4WD buggies are out there. I don't care for Nitro much, Too loud for where I run. I don't care for motocross bike powerband driving. I like power NOW that only electric will give you.

The HPI MT is just like the MT 2 but is electric and is alot lighter. You should look into that.

MT is discontinued and 2WD. I have 2) ASS T4 that would kill the MT. I want 4WD and not a Monster truck or buggy. No choice but build your own.

I think HPI uses 48p. You may also wanna get a carbon fiber chassis & ditch the brake system & all that. My friend can custom make alot of that for you [email protected]

and if you wait long enough, I see new in box elec MT's on ebay every few weeks. Not to mention there are enough hop ups out there to empty almost any wallet.

I did read a lot of post about these but did forget about them being 4WD. The MT2 has a lot of updates to make it stronger the MT that had a notorious weak front end that they supposedly fixed in the MT2. Half the fun of it will be building it. I am 40 years old and an ex Audi mechanic so this will be just plain fun to do.

I have heard of the MT2's having weak front ends.

I have a nitro MT and it has gone through some decent wrecks and other stupid stuff and the front end has never broken. I've striped a rear diff gear. And I crashed into the railroad ties along my driveway (drifting slip). I broke a few suspension pieces but thats to be expected that the speed I was going. I also ran into a curb and bent a front dogbone, but broke nothing else. Actually come to think of it I have run about 3 gallons on that slightly bent dogbone, LOL.

get the elec MT if you have not already bought the MT2. I think you will be much happier in the long run.

Already bought it. Had to try the nitro thing. Not to impressed. My T4 is way more fun to drive. Was thinking of putting in a Epic .18, but the noise thing and I don't really care for the powerband power. Like I said, building it will be as fun as running it. I also heard about people talking about how weak the MT2 front end is too.

since you are converting to electric you wont be needing the motor and pipe right???

will you let them go for cheap?

I am going to ebay motor, roto start, ect. when I know this conversion will work.

You may want to check out the brushless section of www.radiocontrolzone.com forums as I believe there are guys doing conversions of various nitro vehicles ( 1/8 scale buggies in particular) and can give you some pointers.

As for wanted a 4wd stadium truck, I took a look recently at my Academy SB, Sport Edition and I found out that traxxas stampede hexes on there wheels bolt right up. I think that if you ran stampede front wheels front and rear ( as they have better offset ) it would work and you would have a 4wd shaft driven truck. I think you just need to rig a body and you would be all set.

I am looking into getting a run of spur gears cut in 32 or 48 tooth and sell them. Please chime in on who would be interested in buying one. It will be an exact copy, so you could run you existing slipper clutch parts. Sounds like around $30.00 - 40.00, give or take. Again, please give a yea or na so I can get some idea if it is feasible to go ahead with this idea.
