I have been a big fan of Tamiya over the years, Have owned, built and destroyed dozens of em, and currently have 4 of em in the collection, However they have in many areas been over taken and bettered by the competition, The entry level RTR's from other companies are generally of better quality and stunning value.

And when you compare the entry level Tamiya Off-Roaders to something like the RTR B4.1 the difference is pretty damn big.

I believe this is why in recent times Tamiya have released a race kit (there race kits at the moment are imo killer, the 4wd is too expensive but at least its there)) and then a cheaper version aimed at a bigger market.

Their on road cars (again imo) are still an excellent range, with many of them being perfect for their intended use.

I think Tamiya is pretty cool! I have had Losi and AE and can honestly say the build quality of Tamiya is well above any of the previous cars I have owned.

i dont have any Tamiya "race kits" but i do have the df03ra. i will say the lexan body is killer. but the kits plastic seems cheap next to even traxxas or hpi. All phillips screws, no hex heads... some other small stuff..

i still think they are cool but the non race stuff is a little behind the times imo.

Just for clarification the TRF stuff is top notch. The hobby grade kits are still quite impressive.

My first outing with the 502x was great. I haven't driven a 1/10 4wd since 1988.

What I can tell you is that it was very easy to drive and drive fast. I am leaving in an hour to go race it tonight so we will see what I can do with it.
