I've never used that speedo but you can put some timing at the endbell. Some of us like the boost some don't. I personally do like the boosted feel better.

Anyone have any sc10 gearing combos to try for a 17.5 blinky? Thanks
The sc10 manual suggests 75/28 as a starting point for 17.5 so I would try that and see how it works for you. Keep an eye on the temps and adjust up or down accordingly.

I just got a D3 17.5 with high torque rotor. I was wondering what gearing and motor endbell timing you are running for blinky 2wd SCT. The track im running is small/tight with a small straight.

Thanks for the help.

Start at the 3rd timing mark from the longest line on the motor and then if it is an associated truck or a 2.6 transmission start gearing at 78/26. Most likely you will end up around 78/28 but work your way up. Adding any more timing on the endbell much past the third line in the sct truck will only add more heat then power in blinky!

Good luck!

Default Yes...

I would suggest a safe starting point would be 81 (stock spur gear) and 19 tooth pinion, if the track is really big you will most likely end up with a 20 or 21 tooth pinion but start on the safe side for sure and check motor temps!

Good Luck!

Thanks a lot. This is going in an sc10. Cant wait to try out these motors I got from you. I'll give those ratios a try.

Also, Is the longest line on the motor 0 timing?

ThANKS... what does it mean to go down in spur gear size? One person says 78/28 and you say 75/28. Is that higher top end with smaller spur?

Don is correct (We race together often...) 75 28 is a little taller gearing than 78/28. It would be close to a 78/29 as going smaller in spur gear is the same as going larger with pinion gear. A good rule of thumb is 3 teeth on the spur is equal to about 1 on the pinion as far as gear ratio change.

I would start out at 75 or 78/ 28 and keep track of temps.

Good Luck!

Hey man, how are you?

I tried 17.5 Blinky at Leisure last week and think I cooked my old Nemesis (Red can). I forgot to take out the 1S rotor and replace it with the stock one. So I kept upping the motor timing until it didn't go any faster and just overheated. DOH!

Anyway it was slower than a snail. I should have put in my D3 but I didn't feel like taking it out of the 12th.

Switching from a 17.5 d2 to a d3, what difference should I expect?

Hey mike, the D3 is just a better motor. It's more forgiving when your looking for the right gear ratio, it runs cooler and has a better RPM range. The D3 likes timing all around, we put it in the speedo and the endbell. For me its the one to have in my area where we can boost it to the moon. Good luck and let us know what you find.

I'm stoked to get it. I have my timing maxed on the endbell and in my Tekin RS and it's fast. Runs 120 all day..

I have two d2s but one is like 3 years old and getting worn. I got the D3 to replace it. I'm sure it's going to be awesome.

Does anyone have a spare rear endbell for a d2/d3/revtech around? I purchased a used d2 and one of the holes on the rear is stripped so there are really only two long screws holding this thing together. If you have one to part with, please give a pm. Thanks.

I also reshimmed and stuck a revtech 12.3mm rotor in there, brand new. It's for the wifey.
