I run Short Course stock and pro with two Traxxas Slash trucks. Stock is just that except our track allows different radio and receiver. I have no trouble beating Associated and HPI trucks. I run a Slash with the STRC conversion that uses a Rustler chassis and lowers the truck 2.5 inches. Last race of the season I out ran Factory Team Associated and HPI Blitzs. With the conversion I could cut corners sharper than either of the other trucks. I was running the Traxxas Vinlenon brushless motor and ESC in the pro truck.
I have run the stock Slash for over a year and raced it at least once if not twice a weekend and have never broken a part. I did replace the stock motor once during that time. I do not bash only race.

+1 Associated, for the ability to race, very easy to get parts and still pretty durable.

I don't race 2wd shortcourse that often, but when I do, I run my associated sc10... However, I did own an hpi blitz for a while and it was VERY tough... Way more durable than the sc10... I don't bash though. Your original post implies that whatever rig you buy will be raced roughly and bashed a lot..HPI gets my vote on this one...

I say hpi I had all the trucks t4, rustler, e firestorm and the short course versions. And I had the least amount of problems from HPI products they were tough and fast and a lil easier to work on compare to AE. Only problem I had with HPI was my lhs didnt carry the parts only savage parts.

Im true blood associated.
I race mine, bash mine, i run practice laps with SCT and 1/8 nitro... I GET RUN OVER!!!
I have had traxxas and associated in 1/10 for the most part.
Traxxas is junk, i can find ways to break it in 30-45 min of total run time. Cant stand the driveline. Cant bear to watch one race... Out of as many 1/10 associated ive had Ive broken 1 thing EVER! Which was a right front caster block where the ball stud screwed into it, and this was on an original rc10t over 15 years ago... I still have this truck and it works flawlessly to this day. Even sat on the shelf for 10 years, in high humidity even. After taking this and a trax, and a kyosho out of the garage after so long, the associated was the only one that still had a working suspension. By this i mean the hinge pins were still free, the shocks didnt bind, etc. Hell the servo was bound up after sitting so long, but the truck is still running strong.
If i were to recommend based on what i saw (yes my opinion)
1. Associated
2. Kyosho
3. HPI
4. Something other than traxxas
The only thing i hold on to traxxas for was getting me into this hobby so so long ago (when they still sold build kits)... So I thank them for that!
My 2¢ and sticking to it

ive got an associated sc10 brushless and love it! i put a rpm bumper and rpm front and rear arms. the front arms come with a bulkhead thats alot more durable than stock. to help protect the rear i added a t bone rear skid that looks killer. these items will make a sc10 alot more durable and bash worthy.
