Default Venom 40c vs 60c ? Charge rates..

I was considering a couple of the newer venom 60c lipo packs but then I noticed they list a 1c charge rate.. can that be right? The older 40c venom packs were listed with a 3c charge rate. Anyone know if this is just a goof on the write up, or if it's the actual spec. No way I'm going back to 1c charging.. LOL.

Anything at 1c is 1hr charge.. doesn't matter the size... at least from empty. Granted typically the pack won't be spent.. but it's the point.. I want at least a 2c charge.

Doesn't make sense that they'd go backwards like that, maybe call them and get their answer. Sounds like a mistake, but I'd want to know one way or the other. You can't be the 1st to notice and question it.

I thought I've read any lipo with 40+C rating would be at least capable of 3C (if not 5C)....

I know what you mean about not going back to 1C charging.

My 40C Turnigy have a 5C charge label on them. I always charge at 2-3C at the track and never had a problem with them.

Yes those turnigy are capable of a 5c charge rate.. LOL so charging at 2c or 3c is not an issue.. the point is the venom packs are listed with a 1c charge rate max... with the rest of lipos on the market at 2-5c charge rates it makes me wonder about the quality of the pack.

Just the brand new ones? Or higher C ones?

My venom 35c is rated at 3c

I would wonder about the Turnigy / Hobbywing batteries befor I would worry about the Venom's quality.

I wouldn't.....been charging mine at 2C (few older ones) and 3C for the newer ones since I got them. They don't even get warm, they just charge quicker.

I had three of five batteries that were junk, ..... 1 started on fire while on the charger. Tried to order anothet set 3s that never even came.

With that I will worry about Turnigy and Hobbywing befor i lose any sleep w/ my Venom batteries. Plus they are a great US company!!!

I don't think it's a mistake... Fantom (example) makes a few different quality packs. A few you can charge at 3C others you can charge at 1C. You can call and make sure, but the 40C rating on packs has nothing to do with charge rates.

There has been a small number of cases in which we have seen reduced life cycles when charging at 2C and 3C with our past production of 40C LiPO packs. The Venom LiPO Batteries are capable of higher charge rates, however, for new LiPO users, we conservatively rate our packs at 1C for consumer safety and pack longevity.
