Default FT T4.1 and B4.1 Manual Lists Wrong Gearing?

Has anybody else noticed a bunch of the FDR listed in the FT T4.1 and B4.1 manual are all messed up. I didn't go through all of them but I know the listings for 13.5t and 17.5t brushless motors are incorrect. Do they want me to use the pinion/spur listed or the FDR listed?

By the way, I have a FT T4.1 with a 17.5t motor, no timing. Plan on using 75 spur and a 28 pinion to start.

That should be a good starting point. I think you can probably go to a bigger pinion though. It will depend on the track size and how you like it to feel though.

If you look at the chart there should be an asterisk (*) by both 13.5 and 17.5 brushless motors. The asterisk states that the "Recommendations for 17.5 and 13.5 motors are for racers using 'stock spec' type speed controls, which have timing advance."

So if you have boost, ramp up, extreme amounts of timing, etc. in your ESC you are going to want to start with that gearing. If you have a non timing advance ESC, such as LRP Sphere, SXX Comp/TC Version 1, you will have to gear up a bit.

As for the other gearings, those are all correct.

If you do the math on the gearings they don't match up to the FDR listed.

Your going to want to go off the gear not the FDR.

Example:

It lists a 20t pinion and an 87t spur for a T4.1 with a 17.5t. It lists this FDR as 6.50:1. My math says this is a FDR of 11.31:1. As a matter of fact, the same pionion and spur is listed for a brushed 27t motor with a FDR of 11.31:1. Am I missing something here?

Can I get free credit for Associated merchandise having discovered the issue? I have a FT SC10 and FT T4.1. How about a FT B4.1 to round out my collection?

What does AE recomend for a 17.5t WITHOUT timing?

In the T4.1? Which motor do you have?

Probably start off in the realm of 27/75. Just make sure to check your temperature quite often the first couple times you run it.

Thanks for the quick response. That is why I only race AE stuff now. Still wouldn't mind a FT B4.1 though!

I don't even know the guy but I agree, he deserves something! On numerous occasions I have let R.C companies know of typos on websites and manuals. I'm not going to say who or what but one of the typos was pretty bad. Never so much as a thank you. Hook the guy up with something.

Default 17.5 LRP Motor/ Slipper problem

I just installed an LRP 17.5 motor. I have the V2 slipper on my T4. I have it set around 2 full turns from where the nut is flat at the top. My problem is, when I grab the rear wheels and hit the throttle to check the slipper, it doesnt even slip and its burning up the motor. I tried tightening and loosening the slipper nut and still wont engage the slipper. I have never used a 17.5 so is this normal for the slipper not to be a factor since its a slower motor? My 10.5 motor has no problems with the slipper. Can someone help me with this? Thanks!!!
