SC10-7.5 or 8.5T?

I have a FT SC10 that I just built and was wondering whether I should run an 8.5T or 7.5T LRP X12 in it? I have one of each, and saw that Maifield ran the 7.5 at the nats, but I have an 8.5 in my B4 and that thing is very fast. Do I need that much of a motor (7.5T) in a SC truck? Your thoughts.

Maifield's also the guy that kicked butt at the nats a few years ago with an OS .12CV-R in a gas truck.

You don't need much power in these things. Biggest challenge is putting it to the ground.

im taking out my 7.5 and putting in my 10.5 i think its all about the track your on. i ran the 7.5 on large outdoor tracks. but the 10.5 on small indoors

BINGO!! I've always been amazed by the guys who constantly upgrade and go for biggest, best & fastest but can't drive worth a damn.

Best thing you can do is run both, play with gearing a little bit and see which suits your driving. Too many people focus on what number is on their motor and don't actually try different setups. Most of us aren't pros. Experimentation is the best teacher.

With the ESCs we have now even a 10.5 is pretty wild for an SC truck. I use a 17.5 for both Spec and Intermediate and my driving slows me down more than the motor. Our local rules call for 10.5 and up for Intermediate SC but almost nobody runs anything hotter than a 13.5. what's the point?

Just my .02.

I'm old school and don't run any of that fancy enhanced speedo timing.

When I first built my SC10 last spring I had an 8.5t in it and eventually found it a little hairy and went up to a 9.5t. Then for about a month in the Summer I went to a 10.5t and just found I didn't have enough of that reserve power for getting past people on the straights or setting up for the quad on my track. So now I'm back to the 9.5t and it seems to be just the right motor for me. BTW I run in an open class so whatever goes.

I'm sure I could wheel around ok with an 8.5t now, but I know definitely a 7.5t would be way too much motor for a 2WD SC, for me anyways.

Maybe next season I'll have a fancy new LRP speedo so I can play with the powerband a little;)

an 8.5 woul;d b the smallest motor that i would run in my sc...i usually run a 10.5 or 13.5 and have no prob staying up with the guys with bigger motors..its all in ur ability to drive the truck and control it consistantly

Thats kinda what I thought about the 7.5T. Looks like its going to be the 8.5T for now. Just for grins I threw in a RTR brushless kit that came in a RTR T4.1 (3300kv) and with 2S it was pretty damn quick. A lot of fun too, this is my first SC truck and I couldnt believe how much fun it was just running it around the driveway and road!

just wait till u get it out on the track...tons more fun
