You are way undergeared with a 4s 1700 setup in that car. You should be around 22/46 or so for the average sized 1/8 track.

Gear up!

Thank You Randy! I can always count on you for good advice.

Now, what about gearing for a 2050 in the RC8Be?

Will I get 30 min out of my 1700 with a 6500 4s 60C geared at 22/46?

what if I drop to a 44 spur?

thanks for all your help and input.

[QUOTE=tq_danpatterson;8029675]Hi Billy! Nice to meet another Mike's racer. I wish I could come watch you drive and see what happens with your Ve8. But it's too late for me to go right now (I live in Tyler). Definitely let me know how your run goes with the different pinions.

It may have been your Ve8 that I saw when I went to Mike's on a Sunday a couple weeks ago. I had the pink body on my RC8Be at the time. Does this look familiar?

Yes I saw that car... I was there the past couple of Sunday mornings.. Mine was the blue VE8 that says Jconcepts down the side.. Anyways check your PM Dan.. But for everyone else, 2050 was coming off the track after 12 mins of hard running at 145* with the 20T pinion... Not bad! If I had run the 18T like I was going to before I saw this thread, I think I would have been undergeared! Thanks for the heads up Randy!

It's not likely. 20 minutes yes. 30 minutes is hard to do on 4s without a battery swap.

To get 30 minutes, you'd have to drive so slowly and conservatively that everyone would lap you.

Dan, don't forget what I told you when I sold you the motor. Running a 19 or 20 tooth pinion on my ve8 it always ran hot. Going to a 22 lowered temps 25 degrees. Undergearing can make a motor run hot.

Okay guys i think i'm gonna try my first tekin setup and want to know if the rx8 is redisgned now to where the case will not fail, secondly which motor should i use in my hyper 9e.For some info the car has a 40t spur and will probably be running a pinion according to a 1400kv or a 1700kv,which one will be better on 4s and i might run a small 6s if i get the lower kv motor so i have more runtime.I just want to try a new system for a change.I like sensored stuffAlso what pinion should i use?

It's all dependant on setup. You need to determine what motor/voltage before you can determine gearing. It also helps to have some information on the track (length, composition, etc) to determine proper gearing....

There really isn't a single motor for all batteries. The closest one is the 1700 though. It's fast enough for nearly all 1/8 sized tracks on 4s. On 5s it's back to stuipd fast and on 6s it will be too fast to drive.

A decission should be made on what battery you will use.

On the 6s/1400 setup with a 40 spur would get you around the 14t mark. This is assuming the Hyper 9e is a 3.30ish intneral gear ratio car. Make sure it's a 3.3 car and not a 4.3 car.

Everyone has been saying certain gears to get a final end gear ratio, well whats the equation to figure out the right pinion with spur, and what is the accepted or targeted end ratio. Just want to be able to do it myself, rather than jumping on here.
