If you don't want to build it, don't mind using a less than adequate transmitter along with a stock motor and esc then get the RTR and upgrade as you go.

IMO stock electronics and tx/rx are crap.
I wouldn't bother and would rather pay more to build it myself.

The FT kit is nice!

Really depends on the bling factor IMO, ive been running my SC10 since they were released, still rocking the stock gear diff without problems and the truck has been 1st and TQ at nearly every meet it runs.. All I've done is have B44 hubs on the rear with the GT2 arms mod.

Only difference between the FT and stock choice would be more your local track conditions as to run a gear diff truck or ball diff IMO, all the stock parts hold up very well and being the rtr platic they have more give and help you finish that race rather than a broken front a arm.. I put rpm arms on the front of my truck for when I get t-boned as I had a few tear off.
