BL ESC question

Hey guys, i recently bought a used Tekin 13.5 motor and i have a Novak Havoc esc, can i run this motor with this esc? I dont have the sensor wire for the motor. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks

Yea, hook up you wires A-A, B-B, C-C. It should run without the sensor wire, but I would get one for it... Kevin

Ok cool.. thanks man

Unlikely, the Havoc will not operate unless it "senses" (blue sensor harness wire) that the attached motor features thermal overload protection:

The Havoc 2S ESC and motor contain Thermal Overload Protection circuitry to protect the system from overheating and damage. In fact, the ESC will only operate with brushless motors that have built-in thermal protection that follow ROAR guidelines, such as Novak’s Ballistic Spec Brushless Motors (#3610-#3621) and SS Pro Brushless Motors (#3408 - #3421). This sophisticated feature ensures a fun day at the track without the worry of overheating.
Sensored escs can not drive the motor in a non-sensored mode; you must use the motor sensor harness so the Havoc can detect/sense feedback from the motor.

I don't believe that Novak ESCs will work properly if at all without the sensor wire. Check the Novak website.

Correct

On one of my 10.5 I acquired from my friend, he snipped the blue line on the sensor wire. It still works just fine. I am using a GTB. Your saying that it should not run? I know it is not ideal, but I got the motor pretty cheap.

The GTBs do not have this thermal overload protection; our Havocs--1S, 2S and 3S---have this feature to prevent esc damage if the motor is over-heated. A burnt motor stator or demagnetized rotor could damage a GTB.

Ohh well, just a reason to get the kinetic sooner

Just to clarity, our GTBs work fine with the blue wire unplugged or cut---this sensor wire detects the motor temp, but the GTB will not shut down if the motor overheats.

Our first GTBs---many, many years ago :D---had thermal protection, but racers hated it and simply removed/cut the blue wire, so we removed the circuitry from this esc.
