Default What should I expect.....

I run a 1/8 E-Buggy. I have a Castle Monster speed control with the 2200kv motor. I have a Pro-Tek 5400 4s Lipo. I got this stuff all new 5 months ago. I have ran maybe 8 to 10 races with this and never bashed. Not even practice time. I run a clutch with a 17 tooth bell and stock diff gear. I have been running this set up all year with no changes.
My stuff has worked good everytime and my temps are normal around 120-140 degrees. I have never seen the fan kick on the speed control.
Last night I was in my 15 min main about 12 mins in when suddenly we saw a flame glowing under the body. A marshal quickly grabbed the car, took off the body and threw dirt on the speed control. I was not on fire at that point I dont think. Seemed to be only a quick flame and it
was over.
What i found was just what the picture shows. The speed control case bottom was still mounted to the car. The case had came apart at some point. The red wire came out of the speed control and the case was a little melted on the side.
This whole system has had little use. How does the warrenty work from Castle and what do you think I should expect to hear from Castle? I am not sure what caused this but I will contact them this week. Thanks

Maybe the esc wasn't cushioned enough and took a huge impact at some point in the race and shorted it out.Mine is fastened with 3 pieces of double sidedtape and zip-tied down so it doesn't move around.

Mine was mounted with double sided tape as well. The bottom was still mounted when I took it apart an hour ago.

Thats strange. The esc plate is still there because the little stickers on the side cover up the clips you take the case apart with.Let me guess you didn't use a zip-tie.

Someone should have told you to run a zip-tie under and over esc mounting plate and over the esc so it will not come apart. This would not have happened if You had the ziptie.

Wow, if thats the case that we need to run zip ties around the esc. then it should be in the direction and they should supply them, but since this is not then they should warranty it.

I cant see a zip tie being required. If the case is not built to handle it then a change is is bad need here I say. I have to believe that Castle feels as though they have built a case that is up to speed. I just wonder if they might cover it or not.

They are probably gonna say that is common since but do mention it to them. Most people just mount them and think that's it.

I love Castle products and run them a lot but there cases SUCK!!! The crap little clips they use on their Sidewinder and MMM are absolute garbage and should be redesigned. They do have the best warranty in the business though. 12 months from original purchase if you bought it new. They'll take care of you but definitely run a zip tie next time.

This would not be common sense. This would be a jack leg attempt to stop a weak parts from failing. I have seen tons of others running this speed control. I have never seen a monster speed control mounted with a zip tie. Maybe it would help, i don't know but it should not be required. Thanks for your replys though.

It's not required at all. But it's a handy precaution that doesn't put you out but a fraction of a cent so why not? Once the speedo is opened at all whether by you or by a crash it will never hold together the same again.
There are many other solutions including running the $3 mount that comes on the brushless ERevo.

Ok, more needs to be done to mount the speed control. I can expect Castle to help then?

Most likely over time the case itself came loose (I'd check this every time you run a heat) and then the ESC was essentially just bopping around until it lit.

How to fix.. buy a hpi vorza mount and be done with it OR use zip ties to assure the case doesn't give out.

I replace my case every year; excessive? I don't think so... 14 bucks gets you a new case and new fan and less to worry about.
