Default how do you know what kv??

to put in an 1/8 scale buggy?
ive been running a 5700 in my 1/10 scale on the same track but it looks like 1/8 has kvs in the 1800-2600 range
what do most people run? or is it completely track dependant?

Depends on the track, length of your heats, type of battery and driving style.

I think the High kV rating is for top speed and higher revs. A lower kV is lower revs, however you have more torque which is probably required for the 1/8 buggies. I don't race 1/8 so I'm not sure but that is what I suspect.

im not racing.. just bashing ( i guess ) at the track.
im hoping someone will chime in on the club forums about the size of the track so that will help

You should always be around 30000 rpm's.
Battery voltage * KV = rpm.

If it were me bashing, I would go with the lower kV for longer runtimes and have the extra torque would be very nice for hill climbing and getting through tall grass, etc.

You want to keep RPMs between 28-35k rpms.

This is a good chart to show you how to match voltage to kv...

The higher the voltage, the more efficient things run. However, unless you are running 15+ minute mains, 4s is more than adequate.

not racing.. just playing on the track..
i am used to a .21 nitro 8ight... so i want something similiar.
would prefer decent run times yet enough power to jump the doubles and triples.

what about something like

Tekin 1/8 Rx8 Brushless System/T8 1900kV

Tekin T8 1900Kv is a buggy motor, while the 2200kv is a truggy motor (not necessary for a buggy).
If you choose Tekin on 4S lipo, I would rather suggest the 2050Kv buggy motor.
I am running the 1900kv buggy motor, but prefer to use 5S (18.5 volts) on this motor. That is really sweet, but heavier and more expensive batteries.

That 1900kv is really good on 4S. The 2050kv buggy motor too and gives a bit more top, but the 2050kv is harder to drive. If you track is really big and open you can go with the 2050kv. But for a normal medium sized track I suggest the 1900kv.
I drive a Neu 1512 1850kv on 4S lipo and it's dialed. It runs as fast as a nitro car.

what about the straights? will it keep up w/ nitros?

i guess i meant the 2050.. thats for buggies.

is the 2250 overkill? or what defines it as a truggy motor vs a buggy motor?

It will be faster than 90% of nitros. You can beat any nitro if you gear up, I don't care who modded the engine. You will accelerate about twice as fast as a nitro. You can clear jumps from a three foot run up that most nitros will need half a straight to clear. Not having enough torque simply isn't a problem for 1/8 electric.

The truggy motors are slightly longer, so they produce more torque. If you are just bashing, the 2200 motor is fine. You will get longer run times though with a 2050.
