Default stripping out rear wheel....wtf

so as it started two separate race nights i broke the axle pins to the rear wheel in my sc10......went to lhs to purchase the solid axle pins but they didnt have them in stock, so i busted out the old drimmel and cut down and old alan key to size. perfect size i might add, fit why better then the stock pins no side to side play. Now the next race night the new alans didn't break but now it stripped out the wheel completely. could this be a trans issue or possibly slipper issue?????????

running mamba max 5700kv
14/87 gearing
mip ball diff
mip cvd axles
caliber rear tires with bead locks.......

Make sure the pin is properly engaged into the groove on the wheel. Also try fresh lock nuts on the axles.

The earlier rear rims had issuees. If yours are the newer ones, which they probably are, use locktite or new lock nuts.

most of the time the rims strip because we are in to much of a hurry to get back on the track and we dont put them back in right. if you look at a new pin and rim there is a little bit of slop in them. i think when u put the allen in for drive pins they cut a little till they finally failed. get the solid pins and try again. or i have had good sucess by using traxxas hexes and rims. good luck.

Convert it over to the Hex style and I use the hex for the Traxxas Slash. it comes with the thicker pins and you get about a 1/8 inch wider wheel base

ok so if i switch over to hex style.... what about the front so my rear will be 1/8 wider and front will be 1/8 narrower than rear.... sounds like a bad combo... or are u suggesting to switch all four like the is slash?

I haven't noticed any negâtive side effects from the wider rear I have good front traction and its only 1/8th wider at most so its not a huge diffrence I don't know to do the front probly some kind of spacer between the hub and berring

We are actually working on a hex kit for the SC10 so you can use the hex style rims (less likely to strip) the hex kit will be specifically to the SC10 axle and pin size

I have been working on a few designs. You guys have more machining capabilities than I do. A new steering block that puts the bearings in the steering block with a pin axle on the front allows the rears to work on the front. Maybe you guys can make us a new steering block. I also have a test part for front wheels working on the rear. This way I need to test with all the aftermarket wheels out to see if they all will work, but it does work with AE wheels. Either way means one wheel front and rear.

The stock rear roll pin is just too short. It needs to be as long as the slot. Losi makes a longer roll pin (the number I need to find) Longer pin helps keep up with the torque load. You still need to use new nuts every now and then to keep them tight but you wont strip them out and the pin can't shift to one side or the other.

Get the New Era 17mm adapters. Build your wheels with SC8 wheels
or the new DE racing 17mm hub SC wheels. You will not strip out the
aluminum adapter if its installed properly and you can completly
rotate tires side to side and front to rear. Best mod I ever made to
my SC10. As far as racing goes I have never failed a Tech because
of the Adapters as long as I am running the 2.2x3.0 SC wheels.

A few guys are running Black wheel nuts for a totaly stealth look.

DE racing makes replacment wheels now for the SC8

http://www.deracing.net/main.htm

My only concern is how much weight does this add and does it change the over all width of the truck. I stock is about 11 3/8

Get some lock washers for the nuts. I put some on mine (and a few more racers sc10s) and no more stripped wheels. Can't remember the size of the washer. Good luck with it.
