Page 18 of the SC10 manual has a chart that's a good starting point.

You will want to use the stock spur and anything between 18 and 20 for the pinion. I would go with the 20.

No it isn't. It's VERY wrong. Follow it and you'll be way overgeared. This is why their ESCs are melting

i say start with 87:15, then check to see how hot the motor is. if you can hold your finger on it for 2 seconds, then the gearing is ok. any shorter, go down 1 tooth, any longer go up 1 tooth.

I can tell you from experience that 87/22 is geared too high. This weekend I will try 87/19 and if it's still too hot then I will go 87/16 then gear in-between. Also take into consideration maybe using the 75T spur. I may give 75/22 a shot as well.

i appreciate all the info... the last thing i want is another melted esc or motor... that last one i went through was a novak with 10.5 turn motor.

With a 10.5 I'd go no taller than 21/75; I have a Ballistic 10.5 in my T4 at 21/75 with no temp problems even after 20 or 30 minutes and it is plenty fast

Yeah I don't plan on running a novak again. I've had too many problems with it. What I will be running is the reedy 3300kv. Basically updating my sc10 rockstar to the brushless sc10 rockstar that you can get today. I was curious to know the stock gearing for that brushless version and if it was any different from the older version. Also does anyone know an accurate turn rating for that reedy 3300kv?

Reedy over Novak for a motor is an odd choice in my book, but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla. No help with your conversion, sorry.

Default why i'm going from novak to reedy...

the reason i'm going from a novak to a reedy is the hopes of reliability and compatibility. Both my bearings and my friends bearings in the novak motors went a couple of weeks ago and had to replace them. then after driving for 4 minutes at rc madness my speed control caught fire , killed my lipo and my friend's novak motor complete went at the same time too. we weren't doing anything out of the ordinary either. the thing i also like about the stock sc10 esc is that it's compatible with 7 cell NiMH which i'll have to use now that i'm out one lipo battery. in running my sc10 with the 10.5 novak i found i was getting about the same top end as my friend's b4 brushless so i'm not too concerned with speed. who knows i could end up having just as many problems with the reedy set up but for now i'm willing to run anything that has the chance of being reliable.
