Default Which electric 1:8 buggy to buy???

Hi all,
Looking to take the step up to 1:8 scale 4wd electric buggy. I'm interested in a quality kit that's relatively durable, and under $500.00. Have built Tamiya and Kyosho in the past and have thought they make great kits. I have also seen what looks like some nice offerings from Ofna and Hot Bodies.
Your thoughts and recommendations, as always, are appreciated.

Are you racing or bashing?

Caster is the most balanced and is very durable but you have to use 2 batteries instead of 1.

Lots of pics and info there.

Primarily bashing.
Up until now, I hate to admit I never heard of Caster. Seems like a nice buggy, but why the lack of threaded shocks (or am I just missing something)?

clips are used for quick and accurate preload adjustments. It is easier to reproduce a set up for certain tracks with spacers rather that measure and twist. (no tools required) The most expensive race buggy available (Kyosho MP9) uses clips on the shocks too.

If you really must have threaded shocks Caster sells them as an option part.

I have a set but prefer the clips for ease of use.

If you are just bashing, you might want to consider the HPI Vorza. It's about $600, but it's an RTR. Kyosho has the $400 Inferno VE RTR.
If you are looking for a kit then the AE RCe8 or Ve8 are excellent, but they are primarily race vehicles and have no electronics.

Caster RTR is $350 with coupon and it has a 2.4 radio.

Considering the price of the Kyosho, I'm guessing they're also made out of gold

The Caster seems like a pretty good deal for the $$$, especially when compared to some of the more "popular" buggies out there.

Team Associated's RC8e or RC8Be are both very good, very durable, and great for bashing or racing. Parts support is excellent (company located in SoCal) plus spares and hop-ups are reasonable priced.
