Default Ballistic 5.5 vs Velineon in slash 4x4

Thinking of upgrading my motor in my slash 4x4. How much improvement in power and or speed would I notice going to the 5.5 ballistic motor over the stock vxl 3s that comes in the slash? I am using a MMP esc. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm looking at this one. Not sure if I should go 5.5 or 4.5. Run 2S 30C 5100 lipos.

I ran the 4.5 in my Slash 4x4 at the track. Torque was rediculous. Top speed seemed a little faster. What ESC are uoi running?

i run the 4.5 but i also run 50c/100c also, novak recommends nothing less than a 35c continious rating with these motors. These motors take alot power. With the battery's you are running i would use a 5.5. fyi iused a 30c 2cell hard case name brand for some testing and in like 6 minutes i pulled it out and it looked like a 3 cell from the swelling

Wow! Good to know. I run hardcase lipos too. Maybe I'll stick with the stock motor until I can get some bigger C lipos. Don't want to puff my packs.

make sure you buy the ballistic 550, i have the hv550 which is the older version with a non-customer replaceable sensor wire. I am having problems with the sensor wire so i have to send i back to novak and hopefully i can pay a little money and upgrade to the ballistic 550. Great motor, lots of torque, no heat problems.

I beg the differ,i use the reedy 20c with 30c burst and it has not swelled up after running it for about 2 months now.i run the jammin scrt-10 with a mamba max pro esc and the ballistic 550 4.5t and it only runs about 125 After 20 minutes of running,i also run the turnigy 2s 5000mah hardcase 20c-30c and works great. The novak ballistic 550 4.5t is a great motor ,gives great torque and great smooth power(sensored is the smoothest)Now it runs better on a 40c 2s 5000mah and would recommend it but your battery will work fine.

Thank you for your input. I only run 6 minute heats and 10 minute mains at most. Usually 6 is the norm for mains too. Guess I can buy one and if I need to I can put the stock motor back in if the batteries don't handle it until I get some other batteries.

I run 4.5 with gtb esc, one guy at the track was running the mmp esc and it was getting hot, he needed to change the pinion to 12T because of the heat so keep an eye on the esc temp with the mmp

No problem, the motor should be is direct drop in,and make sure to get the 5mm pinion as the shaft of the ballistic is 5mm thick.(the same ones for the e-revo brushless edition.)

That's wierd,i run the stock 13t pinion and my motor gets to 125 and the esc about 109 and the fan never kicks on,makes me think it's broken.lol.(but it's not),they kick on at 150.
