yea thank you heaps on the back it says max charge rate is 5c which i think is 10 amps i charged them at 9 amps as there 5300 mah 30-60 c nano-tech it took 22 mins ..on the balance charge setting .using a( mega 200w x2 balance charger/discharger turnigy )also got third digree burns soldering deans lol

one more quick question i used the(real) car to power the charger and there suggesting using a 15--18v DC with at least 500w WTF why cant i just use the car battery charger to power the lipo charger

I think I will stick with my 1C charge rate for now. Might go up to 2C on my nano techs.

What's a good cheap charger that can handle 10amp charging loads?

New to LiPos here but I have an old Duratrax ICE charger and IIRC intellipeak power supply that says it is rated at 10 amps output at 12v. Are these items capable of properly charging the newer 2s and 4s LiPo packs?

1C is so 2010 (just kidding).

I have charged my Thunderpower 6C 2700mAh at 12C as the battery manufacturer listed.

Battery:http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/G6Pro...sBatteries.htm

With a Revolectrix Powerlab8 charger: http://www.revolectrix.com/pl8_description_tab.htm

And a MaxAmps 24V power supply: http://www.maxamps.com/Power-Supply-24V.htm

My two sons and I run three 8th scale E buggies (one 6S and two 4S) and three 10th scale 4x4 SC trucks (all 2S) and I don't have time to be fooling around with 30+ minute charge times. No fires, no drama, no heat, and no failed batteries. All still perform and charge like when they were new. With the Revolectrix and a Duo3 Hyperion I can easly keep up with all 6 RCs. I will admit the first time I started to pump 32amps into the 6S battery that I hit the start button with a little trepidation, but that ended after I did it for the first time. I am relatively new to RCs (2+ years) and so I understand how guys that have done it much longer than I stick to previous guidelines. But the battery manufacturers have tested and are willing to publish high charge rates, so why not take advantage of that (If you need it like I do). I don't even blink when charging at 5C these days.

Maybe I am a fool to be so haphazard about this, but only time will tell ...

Default My set up.

I love my Hyperion Charger. Originally it was charging my 6S 5000 lipos for my heli, using 24 volts from group 31 AGM batteries at the air field. I would parallel charge them all the time.

Now it only charges my 2S and occasional 3S. at home or track.

I was using a large noisy 30Amp marine battery charger to power my Hyp, but have just converted a 600W Computer ATX PSU to use instead. It's so much nicer, smaller, quieter then the old marine charger.

I had one 2S 5000 40c Tenergy pack light up after charging at the track. It happened as we were installing it into my Slash to Run. The track manager had to amerce it in water to contain it.

Bummer, I can't post links yet cuz i'm a nooob... ERRRRR

For a 5300mAh 1C is 5.3 amps, 2C is 10.6 amps.....5C is 26.5 amps. 9 amps is around 1.7C.

Because of current limiting on the input side of the charger. Probably not an issue if you are charging 2S packs. More of a concern with 4S and up packs. Charger will run cooler with a higher input voltage, and the higher volts may be needed to get the full power output.

The really big chargers now available require 24V or even higher to get the full kick out of them.

Biggest thing to note is the ICE doesn't have a built in balancer. Thus is not as safe if something goes wrong and/or cells change with age. The ICE is relatively slow on the already slow CV portion of the charge in my experience compared to more modern stuff.

But it will work, how many of us started. It will do up to a 4S. Personally I wouldn't go above 1C with it, and I would manually check the cell voltages regularly.

So so true.

Funny to see these old threads dragged up, and see the stuff one used to say. With the latest lipos and chargers, I no longer hesitate to crank it up a notch if needed.

Ive got a 2s 6000mah Turnigy nanotech battery its says on the back max 10c charge rate

so does that mean in theory I can charge at max 10amps or am I missing something here ..
anyone point me in the direction of reliable in on what charging at 1c or 10 c is relative to my different battery packs ?
for the record I have the Hyperion EOS 0720i Super Duo Dual charger with 24volt 50 amp power supply..

C is a multiplier of amps.
6000mah = 6 amps
6 amps x 10(c) = 60 amp max charge possible.

Your charge rate will be limited by your chargers capability, not the battery. Max our what you got and your ok... unless your charger charges over 60 amps but most are 5 to 10 amp chargers.

I charge my nano's at 15 to 20 amp.

wow and here i was getting worried charging them at 7 amps per side !

so any battery thats says max 1 c means no more amps than its capacity , say a battery with 5000mah capacity charging at max 1c will be charged no more than 5 amps ?

edit : my charger is capable of 20 amps max 10 amps p0er side when charging two batteries at the same time !

thanks for the info mate

Thats correct.
A 5000mah battery at 2c would be a 10 amp charge... 3c = 15 amp charge and so on.

Yeah, I charge my Gens Ace and Nano Tech bateries at 15 amps. the charger runs at 15 amps for about 10 minutes then starts lowering the amps being put in as it balance charges. The Gens Ace are rated at 5c max and my Nano tech soft packs are rated at 8c. I just placed an order for some 65c 6000mah Nano Tech batteries that are rated at a 10c charge.
