Wow, where do you want to start? People here could write a novel about Slash mod upgrades; Heavier wt Shock oil/40wt,50 wt,2 hole,3 hole pistons, shock caps, shock towers, shock mount locations, batt. size (2s 5000+ Lipo or Nimh) tires M2, M3 diff oils, pinions, upgraded RPM, radio, maint, driving skill and practice, etc. Sorry to be so vague.

I will say that I went from stock to mod with only a motor/esc upgrade, Traxxas BB shocks and tires of course. I was always on the podium in stock and have continued to reach the podium in mod with said upgrades. I will also say that their is plenty of competition in my area.

The Proline Pro Trac Suspension kit looks good but I do not feel the need to do it while I am still winning.

The shocks made a huge difference.

I was running a 13.5 and whooping up on the 10.5's. I did recently up it to a 10.5 after a close battle on my last race

Smooth Driving is key.

I have heard some issues with the Protrak upgrade causing the rear of the chassis to break. Can't say if it is true or not, just second hand info.

The only part that had issues were the rear bearing carriers. After I upgraded to RPM carriers I had no issues.
I had also made a harness out of aluminum to position the battery under the chassis, just a cheap way of doing a low COG chassis. This helped the Slash in the corners.
The best thing about the Slash is its durability - I only had 2 DNF's in the last year due to the rear bearing carriers. (we race weekly)

These things won't necessarily make you faster, but you'll finish almost all of your races. Mod class brings more speed which means harder crashes.

I mounted a pair of RC10 battery cups on the bottom of my chassis for the LowCG treatment, and it helped a bit. The Big Bore shocks made a huge difference over the stock shocks. There are so many other things you can do them, such as sealed diffs, servos springs, tires... But Smooth steady driving is the key to be fast with a slash...or anything.

The playin's over though... I ordered an Xtreme G-10 chassis and a Protrac kit for mine. This should be fun...

Default shocks

They are not plastic so the caps don't pop off and leak oil all over the place, and the bigbores are aluminum and have titanium nitride shafts so they won't bend or break and they overall are more consistent and tunable. They also only cost 5-7 dollars more than the stock shocks.

First things to upgrade are the tyres and shocks, especially if you are gunna do some decent sized jumps. And for driving, practice, practice, practice, 90% driver 10% car.

I would go with the big bores. They are smooooooth. I am still running stock chassis.
I will also add that I am the 2009 TN RCPro State Champ and working on 2010
I get alot of people telling me that the Slash is not a contender, then they see it on the track as well as the podium. The ratio of Fun/Cost can not be beat.

Only things that are not stock.
Motor/Esc
Shocks
Tires

I still run the stock 3 year old servo. I am not gonna change a thing until I can not catch the RC10's.
