More Lipo Help!
Ughhh! This is making me mad :flaming:
So I was running the lipo this morning and it was fine then the truck just stopped and the lipo isn't working! I tried it in another truck. Nothing. Plugged it into the charger and didn't read it! also tried 3 different lipo connectors and nothing! Help me! it wont charge or discharge sense the charger wont pick it up. There is no swelling. this is a pro-tek 3800mah 2 cell lipo running with a castle sidewinder and 7700kv motor. Please help me figure this out quick! |

Where is the lvc on the Sidewinder set? You do know you're not supposed to
discharge a lipo below 3volts/cell (6v for a 2S)?? You shouldn't drive a lipo until it just quits unless there is a low voltage cutoff (lvc) to protect the lipo from being overdischarged. If you charger is not 'seeing' it, you've prob overdischarged it and its below 6v. Lipo chargers are set to not charge any lipo thats below minimum voltage due to safety issues. |

Sounds like a solder joint on your plug or inside the lipo. Email amain, they stand behind their batteries. Dont try taking apart the battery on your own, they wont replace it!!!!

good luck, let us know what you find. |

dude it sounds like a busted solder joint on the connector. especially if there was an impact involved. I bet if you inspect the connector solder joints you'll find your culprit.

Just an update: I took in the protek 3800 and they tested it and it was bad so they gave me a brand new protek 5000 amain has A+++ service
|
Being a hard case, you prob broke a connection inside and you may have damaged the lipo inside as well in the impact. I've seen some of these taken apart and they come out wrinkled from being banged around - and thats an internal short waiting to happen. You're really stuck cause as soon as you break that seal, that lipo won't be allowed to run.
Great of AMain to give you another! |
Lipo Question
So I have a question. I have been using a Pro Tek Lipo 5400 and I have not used any other brand yet. I notice the first few laps the battery has awesome power. Then it drops just a little of the power and remains the same (still has good power) power for the rest of the run. I just wanted to know it this is normal for all lipo battery's or not. Its not a large notice able difference but I can notice it.
thanks |
Its not normal. I doubt you'd notice any drop off in power with a ThunderPower, Hyperion, Neuenergy lipos.
Have you had any issues with it? How are you treating it - charging and storing between uses? Whats your lvc set at? Do you run to the lvc all the time? Reason I ask, maybe something you've done or not done is causing this drop off. This may be slight damage. |
Lipo
This one is a 5400 4s and have been charging it at 5400 4s on the hyperion charger. I usually run about 10minutes, I have not discharged or cycled the battery. Should I be? All the pro tek lipo's I have used feel the same way this one does with some power loss.
thanks again. |
No, lipos don't benefit from cycling like NiMh does. Do you know anyone you could borrow a diff brand lipo from and try? That would tell you if its the lipos you're using or not.
How much goes back into the lipo when you charge it? What you're experienceing is a voltage drop after those 1st few laps. If the lipos is not damaged in any way, the C rating may just not be enough for your setup. Is this the 35C rated 4S? The other thing that would indicate exactly what's happening is to make a run with an onboard data recorder. That would give you the voltae and ampos versus run time so you would understand what the setup is drawing and what the lipo is able to supply. |
You might just get used to the speed. I thought my batteries did this too until i looked at the clock. I didnt do any warm up laps, went straight into the race and it felt faster, and i thought i was getting faster times but it was not the case.
