I need opinions on the Traxxas Summit.
I have a brother (that has no RC experience) that was thinking of getting into RC trucks, and the Traxxas Summit was something he was interested in. What do you guys think of them? Is this a decent truck for a person new to this hobby?
How reliable and durable are they?

they are good for a beginner because they will only do 20ish mph stock they are durable, water proofish, and all around a good truck

I say get a slash or a RTR SC. It is cheap and he can try racing if he wants to. If he gets the summit and wants to race, chances are there will not be a class to run it in. Just my opinion.
If he gets something, anything, he will be hooked.

They're FREAKING AWESOME..... there, that is my opinion.
However, they're also FREAKING EXPENSIVE. Unless you've got $$$ to burn then I suggest something cheaper being your starter vehicle. Like maybe an HPI Wheelie King or a Tamiya Twin-Dagger. (I like 4wd better than 2wd).

My dad just bought a brand new summit today. Got to play with it a bit, it's launches like a mofo and it pretty quick even in low gear. The lockers are pretty neat too. overall I would say it's a good starter truck, not really fast enough to break much unless it's directly ran into a solid object but fast enough to be fun and fairly predictable handling. Battery run time was pretty good too. I am not sure just how well they crawl as we only had a small dirt pile and a stack of old drill pipe to try it on, but I would imagine with a steady finger it would do ok. Bought it at canyon hobbies, two extra sets of batteries and a dual charger for about $800

If your just looking for I truck, I reckon an E Maxx. They're pretty durable, waterproof, cheaper, and a bit faster than a Summit. Probably has better handling as well. I think only get the Summit if he wants to do a little crawling as well.

Traxxas summits are ok. They dont really do anything they say the do that well. Its like a between class. Its not a great crawler or a truck. I would stick with traxxas off road electric for any beginner. Ex: Slash,Rustler,Stampede.
Those 3 trucks are tougher than rocks, have great upgrades, easy to maintain, and will teach the person how to drive and other things with an rc.
