Kyosho electric 4wd?
1 Attachment(s)
I saw these on a web site. They look like electric 4wd buggies, but Kyosho? Could they be another buggy, just Kyosho logos? I don't recognize the front shock towers.

Another one.

That thing looks cool. For a second it looked like my yokomo mr4 bc. It would be cool to get another 4 wheel in the game.
I remember my first car was a Kyosho optima. I would rock a kyosho again. |
I thought it was a Yok too, but the body is different, so is the back wing and front shock tower is different. I'd like to see the inside.
Its a LAZER ZX-S evoooooolution.

Heres a pic of mine, its a ZX-S from 1995. It made its debut in yatabe arena in the hands of Derek Furutani and Greg Hodapp. They both made the "A". I never ran mine, nor have I seen one run, but I heard it was "slow" compared to the "worlds yz10" that won the worlds in 95' in the hands of Mark Pavidis.
Actually the one you saw is a newer version of mine, its based on the early ZX-S. The newer evolutions arent imported over here. They have a new shaft drive 4 wheel buggy. Hope my info helped, I dont post too often on here, I choose to just read up. I just built a new Academy buggy, called the SB-sport, its shaft drive and will post a pic if anyone wants to see.............
What's the deal with it? Any good? Shaft or belt? Since it seems fairly rare, I'm assuming its not very good.
I just saw the phot of the inside, so I guess its belt.
Yes, very smooth too I might add. An awesomely built and designed car. Too bad 4 wheel has diminished like it has.
I have a Yokomo and love it. You're right, it is a small class, but luckily I have been able to race it a little. It would be great to see other buggies besides Losi XXX4. Love to see and get feedback about the Academy. Pics... yeah!

I just finished building it. Didnt paint the body yet, its nothing special as far as quality. Doesnt come with a complete set of bearings, shocks are plastic, no rear universals. Some minor custom fitting had to be done in some areas. Looks great, we shall see how she runs. I changed the shocks to associated and threw on some titanium turnbuckles, and had to order bearings. Lets see what you think......
Yok's were always my favorite cars to run. I ran the first dogfighter and still have it. I also have a brand new one, I also have a yokomo "SE". I have many yoks here brand new. Among them are hmmmmm....lets see. Brand new 834B, which is the "dogfighter" the first "super dogfighter", yokomos first YZ-10 distributed by associated, a "JD-Beckwith sparkle graphite chassis yz10", an MX4, superdogfighter 2, works 93, 95 worlds car.
I'm sure that's why its marked as "sport." No doubt they'll be coming out with later versiuons in all bearings, etc. How do you plan to keep dirt out of it? With the bottom being flat/no tub, it seems vulnerable to letting extra stuff get in.
It comes with an undertray, apart from the spur, its pretty well sealed. They are supposedly coming out with a "team" version. I know its a sport, but for the amount of cars they are building and putting out a few more bearings wont break them. It was rather inexpensive at 199.00, but xxx-4's (not G+) were @229.00 when they first came out and included a full set of bearings.
I agree about the bearings, especially since they are trying to find their own niche in the market. The prices should be lower too because they need to market to get people swayed toward their buggy.
I agree, unfortunately it will take alot more to make sway people from xxx-4's or mr4bc's. I wish the class would grow again, hopefully the BJx4 will help out. Maybe this car too.....im hoping 4wheel picks up again....but doesnt look likely.

Let us know how the Academy works. A lot of guys around here have never even heard of Academy before. :)
The company is more popularly know as MRC, or Model Rectifier Corporation. I'm not sure why they changed names..
MRC imports and distributes the Academy SB-Sport throughout the USA.
Most people still haven't heard about it.
There's a review on the new Academy in the new issue of RC Driver. :)
Really! Can't wait to read the info, where can I pickup RC Driver?
I gave MRC a call and they said the vehicle is out of stock till June, where did you get it at Moe Joe? Moe Joe, can you post your opinions on the vehicle in the Academy thread? Thanks. |
I have a subscription to RC Driver, so not sure where to pick up a copy. Its the July 04 issue and they also review the Yokomo Super Dogfighter 2.
This is off MRC's site too:
MRC |
Back to the Kyosho; is it still competitiive and what kind of wheel pattern is used? Is it Kyosho specific or more standard? What about shocks, what wil fit. I have an oportunity to buy one, but parts availibility has me sketched.
I know parts will be hard to find, but maybe some stuff isn't as bad. I like different/exotic stuff that you can actually race. i like being the only one on a tarck with somehting as long as it is decently competitive.
You guys should try a 4 wheel stock class. We did it at Tacoma RC raceway and the class got huge.
If you race them they will come. Good luck with the Yokomo. I have run one since christmas and love it. Here's a crazy idea that works really well. Run front tires and wheels all the way around. The car rotates like crazy and carrys mad corner speed. Mike Shea |
If you guys want more info about the new Kyosho buggy you need to go to RCCA forum under Kyosho then Lazer ZXR. I posted several pics of the proto guys were running and then some pics of the new shaft drive car they are working on.
