Lets get some info about why lipos balloon and everyones thoughts on how the problems can be fixed .

I already know why they balloon after 1 year of study let's see what other's think .

They don't balloon after 1 year. I have two lipos that are two seasons old and still run to within 5% of new. If any lipo balloons it's because it was abused. Over discharged, over charged, shorted, over loaded, whatever. There is no problem to explore, just the guy using the battery.

When abused/overloaded they give off a gas which puffs the battery. This happens is all batteries, in lipo the gas is hydrogen which is why they can start nasty fires. "Can" type batteries are vented because of the same basic thing.

I don't know the technical reasons, but I know how it happens sometimes. Some battery types do NOT like to be stored fully charged for any length of time. If you leave them stored 100% charged for a few days then go out and run them in car for 5-10 minutes they can balloon big time, especially if it's hot outside. I learned my lesson with this and I always store my batteries at 50% charge. I'll charge them the day before or on race days. Since I started doing that I have never puffed a battery. Also, never ever leave them in locked car during a warm day. That's really asking for trouble. Lipos do not like too much heat.
