Default gear cut questions

I was talking to a friend who is a mechanic/car enthusiast, driving my rc8e and hyper 10sc at his place, so i talked to to him about the difference in the noise the car makes. The hyper 10-strait cut gears and the rc8e-spiral cut gears so he told me that the strait cut gears are the strongest and thats what nascar car's run in there diffs.

So what are the mechanical differences between: strait cut beveled and spiral?
