Which stock motor is faster? Titan 12T or HPI 15T?

I need some electronics to put in a Slash I just built. I can't drop the $ for a new brushless system right now but have brand new electronics from a Blitz as well as a NIB Titan 12T Slash motor. Obviously I am going to use the HPI speed control but which motor should I run for a small indoor, high bite track? Which is faster? Pretty sure the Titan would have more torque due to its size but I want the best overall.

I've driven plenty of titans but never a stock blitz. Any help FROM EXPERIENCE (not wildly guessing) is appreciated.

Slash was my first SCT, then followed by the Blitz...Definitely the Titan!

Going with the Titan, I've heard of the underwater technique to break them in but when I did it I didn't notice any more power. Any other ways to get the most power possible out of one?

the titan has more rip
the firebold is faster at straigt and more feel
the fire bold is faster at most tracks
and the firebold sounds great:blush:

i have had better luck wit the HPI but thats just me

"better luck" as in not blowing up or as in being faster and winning more races?

It also weighs less so maybe I will go with that one. I don't need gobs of torque. its a really small track.

The Blitz stock esc is rated for a 15turn motor. Be careful going down to a 12 turn. The Blitz esc has thermal protection, but I have heard of them crapping out.

Didn't even take that into consideration. Thanks. Guess I'll be sticking with the stock HPI setup. Hopefully not for too long. :D

The Titan is nowhere near a real 12 turn motor and the HPI SC-15 handles it fine.

Not arguing but what do you mean?

The Titan is a 12turn 550 motor which is longer so it actually has more wire than a 12 540 motor. Thats why the Traxxas esc is rated for a 12turn 550 or a 15turn 540. Basically it has the same amount of wire. The Titan will run fine with your esc.

I would have to vote for the Titan, as it has a fan to cool it. if you're running on carpet you might be able to get away with another tooth on your pinion, compared to a 540. from my experience on carpet, it's hell on motors if you're not geared just right.

Try them both and see for your self since votes are going both ways

Well I put the Firebolt 15T in and drove it around my kitchen. It seems kinda like a turd. I'm running a Reedy 5000mah so I don't think its the battery.

I would like to run the Titan but now I'm scared of burning up the brand new speedo.
I feel like such a noob. I haven't been in the hobby long enough to know a whole lot about brushed setups and haven't ran anything but brushless in over 18 months.

I've run both, the titan feels much stronger. I was very disapointed in the 15 turn hpi firebolt. The titan has a 550 size can which is larger and creates more torque than the hpi 540 size motor. To bad traxxas can't seem to get the titan to last because it's a great motor but they just don't seem to last very long. It seems to be hit or miss but I've had a few last less than a month and I've never had one last more than three months. I will say traxxas is great with warranty though. Just my 2 cents worth.
