Default 11.1 volt lipo with xl5 esc question help

i am looking at a Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack
at a good deal can i use this with a traxxas xl5 esc

No. A 3s lipo is 11.1v and the xl-5 is rated for 8.4 max.

so a 2 cell 7.4 volt 5000mah 20-30 c discharger work

Yes but keep in mind the XL-5 ESC has no LVC so you will need an external LVC or LVA to protect any lipo pack you may use.

i believe the esc can handle 9.6 volts. i have the rustler xl-5 and in my manual the esc can handle 9.6v but the motor can only handle 8.4v.but 11.1 is still to much.

Correct the XL5 is rated @ 9.6 max

It'll have to be a low voltage alarm - nobody has a lvc that will work with teh xl-5. Smart stop for example won't work.

Can find lva on eBay or I think some one said Maxamps was selling them too.
