Our HV 550 size motors have a longer can than our standard 540 motor; the motor circumference remains the same. Our 550s have a sturdier 5mm rotor shaft in comparison to the 3.175mm shaft of the 540 motors.

I would suggest that you email [email protected] for assistance with your particular set-up requirements.

Besides a larger shaft diameter, what advantages to the HV have over the Ballistic? That is the only difference I can see on the motor spec chart.

That's an 8th scale buggy if recall?

A 550 is small for a fast solid 1/8th buggy.
I'd look at the motors that come with Castle Mamba Monster, Tekin RX8, or HobbyWing 150amp setups...

Good question; I will see what our "experts" have to say. 550 compared to 540, uses and performance. Here is the link to our HV 550 product info:

The motor mount in our conversion kits was designed around our 550 size motors.

my question is can the mamba monster fit in your mount?

I'll be getting a Novak HV to run with my Mamba Max Pro. I would have gone with a Novak product for the ESC but they don't have anything (currently) with dynamic timing. That is a shame, Novak is missing the boat.

No. The Novak mount replaces the sleeve on the Novak motor and acts as a heat sink. The Mamba Monster motor is too large to fit in the mount. If you machined the mount enough to fit a Mamba monster there wouldn't be anything left to connect the top of the mount to the bottom.

I should have been more specific: our conversion kits were designed around our HV 550 motors and other motors will not fit. These mounts will also fit our upcoming Ballistic 550s---but these motors are not suitable (nor are they ROAR approved) for 1:8 racing applications.

Presently, our 550 motors are in demand for 4x4 SC applications.

Here is the response from Bob:

Since the HV 550 motor has a stator and rotor magnet that are twice the length of a 540 motor, it will have twice the torque of an equivalent Kv 540 motor.

HV 4.5 550 (5000Kv)
Bal. 8.5 540 (5000Kv)

Therefore, if you are running two motors (one 540, one 550) with equivalent Kv in the same vehicle under equal driving conditions, the 550 motor will only have to work about half as hard and will heat up about half as much as the smaller motor.
