That particular bearing seems to be way too small for the job that is required. But other than that the car is solid and the gearbox/diff is butter smooth.

I found another error in the manual. The online manual lists the small topshaft bearing as a 5x8x2.5mm in the online assembly instructions. When you go to the part# description in the back of the manual it list that part 601022 as 5x8x3mm.

I was wondering why the inner diff bearings which are listed as the same size had different part #'s.

So can anyone confirm that the topshaft bearing is 3mm wide. I really dont want to rip the diff apart until I have my new outdrives.

I just checked avid and protek and they do not sell 5x8x3mm bearings. Looks like I'll just need to add a shim or two.

I just checked the acer site and got sizes for bearings :

5x13mm - 2 pc
10x15mm - 4 pc
5x8mm - 3 pc
5x10mm - 8 pc
5x11mm - 2 pc

Only problem is they don't list the 3rd size...are they all 3mm? Trying to get bearings before I get my kit which it seems will take an act of Congress only been on back order for a month and looks like it will be after Christmas before I get it. Sorry for the digression from the topic of bearings

I can measure my extra one tonight but pretty sure it's 2.5mm. I used a 2.5mm in that location and have no extra side to side movement and is not tight. A 3mm would definitely cause issues.

I just grabbed the power tools and removed the bearing its a 2.5mm. Your right the top shaft is very snug. Crisis averted!

I recieved an email that my new outdrives are on the way. The pic does not look as bad as it actually is. The pin is actually digging in deeper below the outer edge of the outdrive.

That is what my outdrives look like... they have about had it. I was hoping to get a lifespan out of these more like the B4 or RB5.... I HATE buying outdrives. The ones on my cougar were soft as well, and eventually got me to sell the car. I was buying a $20 set of outdrives every 3 weeks, and it just seemed silly... these don't seem to be much stronger.

I actually did it in about 8 minutes with the electric screwdriver. I even left the rear shock tower attached to the shocks and rear bumper. Yanked it out from the battery side.
