Flashback: What was your first stock motor that was Roar 91 legal?

I ask this only cause I was for whatever reason sitting here thinking back about how much has changed since I started racing. I am not exactly sure when it was I started since I was a kid. I know I raced before the new stock motor rules came in that you had to have the Roar 91 24 degree motors. This forced me to get away from whatever it was that I was running.

My First Roar 91 motor was the Team Losi super insane, and I am not 100% sure that was the exact name of the motor but close, it had a white and pink label from what I remember.

Think the stock I had before that was a Joel Johnson something. No idea what it was just remember all the different timing stock motors that were out then.

Hope this can be a fun thread just to have a flashback to all the old motors that we all used to think was "fast"...LOL today with brushless and lipo it is amazing how far we have came.

joel johnson, beautiful motor sad to see it go couple yrs later. i had to buy it when the club said my losi revolution super stock was illegal. they said it was cranked. i was 10, i didnt know what they were talking bout. even then there were tools makin it rough for new folks that showed speed.

Not positive, but I'm guessing it was no label handouts from one of the Columbus Ohio races. Either the ’91 Roar Truck Nats or one of the Winter Champs races. Or maybe a Bud’s Racing Products, had a bunch of them since he was the local hero, and sponsored a lot of the local series and trophy races, including the truck nats.

Still have a bunch of them, including lots of other brands, both Epic and Yokomo based if I remember correctly. Probably have 40 or 50 of them with various labels up to about ’95. Never payed much attention to the brands since I rebuilt them all immediately anyway, just cared about which base since they needed different gearing.

Boy do I like brushless, no more new motor for each car every big race or every couple weeks.

Mine was a no label Yokomo silver can, gold brush hood motor. It sure seemed good until the Trinity green machine came out.

I had several but most were the Yokomo variety I ran many Twisters because they were a local company. I also ran a few Pocket Rockets I think also made by Twister.

Twister

What happened to them? Weren't they more geared towards drag racing?

Every time I visited my cousin on LI he'd tell everyone I had a Clodbuster w/Twister motors. All the kids would be like "oooooh really?!?" The reality was I had a Clodbuster but without Twisters. :)

I had a couple of Silver cans, but the first real motor I bought was a Trinity Midnight! I loved that motor...ahhh

Trinity and Twister. Most of out handouts up here were Yokomo based. Good times...lol

Fav motor from back then was my Peak Performance 16T Quad "Animal" or my Race Prep 13T Double with the ceramic rotor shafts.

Edit: Forgot about the Race Prep Stock motors too...

My first stock motor was a Green machine 1. It came with my first real RC car, A TA rc10 ce.

The first stock motor I raced with was a Trinity Midnight.
