Default burnt up motor wires

I was riding my Rustler today, with my new Method R motor i ordered. It was a great motor until, i greatly lost power and speed, and a huge puff of white smoke erupted. Upon further inspection. My 2 wires that connect from my motor, to the esc wires, burnt up. How did this happen?

Im guessing you didnt temp it, How long did you run it for? and what kind of battery/esc/motor turn are you running? Sounds like it overheated, Or maybe the esc couldnt handle the motor turn.

maybe the insulation on the plug itself slipped down causing bare wire to be exposed?= shorting out.

I'm guessing that you didn't change gearing from stock when you put in that R motor thereby overheating it so it burnt up.
