Default Rustler XL-5 help

I just got a used Rustler XL-5 and it is a lot slower than I thought it would be. Everything on it is stock. The guy I git it from said that he had trouble with the esc(said that sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't). I have ran it probably 5 times and it works, it is just slow. I was wondering if there is anything I should look for or if the esc could be the problem.

if all wheels roll freely and dosent feel like any binding in the tranny when you roll it then it must be either the motor or esc. if its an older truck your best bet may be to find a new model used esc/12t titan combo from someone who went brushless. i saw a couple go for around 45 shipped for both. because you will be spending about that if not more on a new esc.

Titans are cheap motors that do ok if they're taken care off - maybe this one needs a good cleaning and re-oiling. That'd be teh 1st thing I checked - spray it out good with motor spray and re-oil the bushings. See if it made any improvement? If no change, and its not esc, its time for a new motor, like I said, Titans are cheap and will only last if maintained.

If prev owner had trouble with esc, you may be in the half power esc profile - need to make sure you're not. Would def check this out - there are 3 profiles and I'm not sure which is which, but make sure you not in the half speed profile, covered in owners manual which is which and how to tell.

Last, make sure your expectations are not unreasonable about speed. These are not blazing fast to begin with. The quoted top speed is with a 7 cell pac ands optional 28t pinion.

Thanks for the help. I checked everything, and I think my expectations were just a little too high. I'm thinkin about upgrading to brushless.

Thats a great upgrade, severl options available, prob easiest is the vxl setup or a castle sidewinder esc and vxl motor. It will def turn it into a diff rc!
