I am using a hard case Zippy Flightmax 5000mah 20C 2S Lipo for my stock Slash that I got from HobbyCity for like $40.00. It is more than I need with plenty of punch during the whole run. The best part is, I go the whole race day without recharging. It lasts three 5 min. qualifiers and a 5 min. main. If I am bashing, it runs about 40 minutes straight. Hope it helps!

The Zippy or Turnigy Hardcase Lipos are the best on the market for the money.
If you race at a track that uses ROAR rules, they may or may not let you run them as they are not approved.
RFI Lipos available from MRC are a good choice if you MUST have ROAR approval.

There are actual tracks that will only let you run ROAR approved lipos? I really am thankful none of them are around here because I doubt I would attend. That just makes an already expensive hobby even more so.

Yea those damn Hobbycity lipos are just ticking time bombs in your expensive RC car waiting to blow half the table-top into the stands when it goes off. And it WILL go off, look at all the guys who lost a nice ride because of it.

On a serious note, I cant comment much about getting ROAR approval, as I do not know the exact requirements. But I do know the reason other companies charge so much more has to do with testing, and getting them approved. The companies that support race teams and organizations put alot of money into making sure the products they sell will perform on race day. This trickles down to us paying more.

If I was a professional racer, racing to keep sponsorships and my job, I would likely not use Hobbycity stuff. But Im not, and most of us are not. This stuff work just fine for us, it has a reliable record, and it saves us money. It doesnt just save us money right now, it saves us money in the long run too. I really dont need a name brand and the extensive testing to tell me that I can win races and have fun with Zippy Lipos.

I just got an SMC 2S 5200mah 50C battery. It really gives a lot of power for the slash. The Thunder Power 40C 4200mah is also very good. These are more then enough for what you need.

The SMC 6000 sport pack is 28c, roar approved and will give you about 45 minutes of run time. It will also fit the slash with no issues.

Though you only need 10 min runs, charge it one time for the entire event, and possibly a top off charge just before the main.

If your looking for something smaller, and just enough for 10 min heats, you could go as low as a 3000 mah pack. I believe Orion has lower mah packs that are Roar.

This is good news to me, as I just ordered a couple of these over the weekend. I want to use them in my 5yr old's Slash to give it a slight bit more power and longer running time. I also picked up a Lipo alarm that should go off when the voltage starts to drop.

I run two 5 min quals and an 11 min main. I use 2 packs, and toss them on the charger after each race.

SMC 24c 5200 Pack
SMC 28c 4500 Pack

Both are great, but I do run the 4500 in my B4 as well. I'd say go after the 4500, It's a great pack with good punch for the Slash, and can get me through a 11 min main with a lot to spare.

In spec class racing the c rating makes a big difference! I have run many lipos in my slash and the thunderpower 5000 40c is the best pack I have run. It has lasted for an entire year running at least every weekend if not more. Im interested to see how the smc 50c holds up.
