need to know

is the velineon system garbage or is it a good choice for my first brushless system?

Brushlessboy16 10-12-2009 08:32 AM

If its the waterproof esc yes. the older models have a tendency to pop bullet plugs off the board if you land wrong.

Good system to start with.. But if you want more programability

Try the mamba max esc and the vileon motor

CBHVR6 10-12-2009 08:39 AM

theres nothing wrong with that system, its mostly just opinions on programing. I do not like the vxl esc personally because i don't like the one button programming. That doesn't mean its a bad esc. I have seen them have problems with cutting lipos too early though. The new ones should have that issue fixed. Its a fine beginner system but in the future look into upgrading the esc.

what about the excelerion system that losi makes

CBHVR6 10-12-2009 08:52 AM

same, motors good, esc is iffy

i'd go mamba max combo,

i don't know what you are putting it in. a rustler?

consider 4600 or 5700 combo, sidewinder or mamba max

rustler20 10-12-2009 11:42 AM

well im looking to put it in my xxxt and slash

CBHVR6 10-12-2009 11:51 AM

4600

motor's almost bullet proof but the esc is problematic but on the bright side they have good warranty!

I ran a Sidewinder/5700 in my Slash to start with, pulled the electronics off as soon as I took it out of the box. Later, I upgraded to MM but have not noticed any diff and since Sidewinder is cheaper and has same programability, I'd go Sidewinder. The 5700 is too much motor for Slash though, loads of wheelspin, 4600 is what I would get if I were to do it over.

If you live where its hot, I'd consider the Sidewinder and a 3500 velineon motor - supposed to be cooler running combo.

I like it because the 3500KV is perfect for bashing and is insane with a good 3S lipo. IMO, the castle 4600KV is too much for 3S and the VXL 3500 is more usable on 3S.

Yes, the ESC isnt the best because it tends to loose some programing as far as the LiPo cut goes but if your good at telling when the LiPo is startding to loose power you can safely stop yourself. That feature is more for n00bs, anyways. I unsolderd the bullet connectors on mine and solderd wires straight to the board and have not have ny issues with it since.

what does the c stand for in 30c lipo

Duster_360 10-13-2009 06:53 AM

Its the continuous amps the lipo can output as in 30C 5000mah should be able to output 5000/1000 x 30 = 150amps.

There is usually 2 C ratings, a continuous and a surge rating. The surge is higher than the continuous C rating, typical 30C continuous would have a 45-50C for a surge rating. As lipo C ratings continue to go up, surge ratings gets mentioned less and less. The place I see it mentioned most is on lipo label, sometimes its not mentioned in advertising.

so is a 30c 3s a good pack?

rustler20 10-13-2009 08:32 AM

what is good starter for racing

CBHVR6 10-13-2009 08:38 AM

a good starter brushless system or battery?

what mah is the 3s 30c?

if you are running 1/10th scale, a good 2s would probably be what you want for racing. a 3s 30c for racing may get alittle squirrelly.
