Default Mamba 2650kV on 2S lipo in 1/8 Buggy?

Looking at the speed calculator, I should be able to get around 40mph ( which I have been told is a good number to aim for ) while running 18t pinion with 44t spur on 2S lipo.

Since I've already got some 2S 5000mah 30C lipos, it would save me some cash. And it should save some weight as well.

I'm just not sure if this would put too much stress on either the motor or ESC. So is there a way of figuring out if either of these will be stressed too much without actually running it? And also, how would I be able to get an idea of runtimes?

Thanks for the help!

I'm running the MMM 2650kv in my rc8 and running 2 2s lipos together for a total of 14.8volts and have no stress issues here.

I've read that the lower the voltage, the hotter the motor temp. So running on just 2s (7.4v) would cause the motor to run hot. So I guess I'll just have to put 2 of my 2s lipos in series.

What kind of runtimes and motor temps are you getting matt?
Cheers,
Peter

I can run a 5 minute heat no problem at the track, temp will come off at 130 to 145 depending on track layout, But here in front of my house I can run it down the street and back " about 350 feet" back and fourth stop and go for about 10 minutes and not be over 160 degrees. My epa is turned down to about 88 % the 2650kv is a lot of power and I don't need it all to chase down the nitros

Sounds great!
I'm a nitro guy, but decided I have to give brushless a go.
I've heard a lot of good things about the MMM 2650kV setup.

I am a nitro guy also , With brushless and lipos you can go just as fast or faster and no mess, no tuning, but I do miss the sound .

I can't see myself giving up nitro altogether.
1/8 electrics haven't taken off in NZ yet, so I'm looking to put a brushless setup in my current XB8EC while the nitro goes into a new XB808.

It will not work properly

you will have heat issues eve if your lipos can even get it to 40mph which is doubtful, its gonna be pulling insane amps to go that fast on 2s, more than likely the lipo will be the weak link.

you could go 3s (youll need a very good one!)

or you can use two of your current 2s 5000 30c lipos in series and gear it down to 35-40 and then you wont have problems.

my suggestion would be to buy the car its own lipo that can handle it
rc-monster.com has these two lipos instock that would easily handle that 2650 geared for what you want.

HYPERION G3 VX 5000 MAH 4S 14.8V 35C/65C
or
HYPERION G3 VX 5500 MAH 3S 11.1V 35C/65C

if you go with the 3s setup i suggest to start off around 35 if you do the 4s setup go for 37-38

both would work well.

Thanks Rootar. I think I'll have to go 4S. The more I read up on this, the more I have to agree with what you said. I'll just have to convince the wife that I need some more lipos!

4S is mighty quick on the 2650kv. Try a 11T pinion to start, 12T next. I'm using 3S and use a 13T (have run 12T also). Next season I'll probably just use 4S for longer runtimes (15 minute mains). If it's a 20 minute race, I'd have to set up two 3S in parallel.

Well I decided I'm going to try the 2200kv with 4s lipo. I'd like to be able to run it on either my buggy or truggy. So I'm gonna try the 16t pinion for the buggy, and 13t pinion for the truggy, which is the same as the clutchbells I'm currently running. I can't wait for all the gear to turn up now!

I raced my 1/8 with mamba 2650Kv & 5000 mah 2S 30C pack. Speedo & motor are running very cool about 100 deg on speedo and 110 deg on motor. I geared 2 teeth higher with 2S than a 3S. I don't know if U can get 40mph on a 2S battery pack. For me it's a lot easier to control on 2S than 3S.

So what size pinion did you use with the 2S batteries? I'm not too worried about top speed, our track is pretty tight with only 1 reasonable straight.

look into running a smaller motor with bigger lipos,I run a tekin 1500kv motor on 6s and its just as fast as a 2650kv on 4 cell and runs right at 105 after a 15 minute main,if you can keep the temp down the esc and motor will last a lot longer

So does a lower kv motor give better run times? I'm looking to stay with 4S rather than 6S just because I can use two of my current 2S batteries in series.
