Default 1/8 Buggy Brushless Conversion

I have a quick question. I found a motor mount to run a brushless motor on my Mugen MBX5. Really the motor mount is all that I would need to make it brushless correct. because the esc can be mounted to the chassis with servo tape and a battery box can be made easily.

When converting a MBX5 you'll need a motor mount AND a servo mount. RC-Monster has a kit for this. You should also get a battery tray as well as you won't find a box big enough for batteries.

www.teamhelotes.com has the best prices for these kits that I've found. Are you doing a truggy or buggy? There is a wealth of information in the existing threads about these conversions. You'll learn quite a bit and it should help you figure out which route you want to take.

I mean, of course if I had the money I would just go with the Tekno kit but $150 bucks isnt easy to come up with.

I'll tell you, converting to electric isn't cheap if you do it right. You're looking at a minimum of 250-300 bucks for a good ESC/motor combo. Another 100 minimum for a battery, 50 more for a set of pinions and at least 75 for motor mount, servo mount and battery tray. If you need a charger that can charge a 4S/5S or 6S battery then that's another good chunk of change.

You sure you can afford it when you say 150 dollars is not easy to come by?

Yes, I already own everything to make it work other than the conversion kit. I have a monster system and servos and radios and recievers.

Sounds like your best bet is the RC-Monster motor/servo mount and battery tray then.

I know that your converting a buggy but I thought I would chime in here also as I thought that converting an 1/8th to electric would be a 600 dollar deal.

But, I have been informed from this board member's help on recommendations.

I went with the following items from hobbyking

RCMonster HB Lightning Brushless mount (60.00)
Turnigy Brushless Car Power System 2350Kv/150A (189.99)
Turnigy 5000mAh 4S 30C Lipo Pack (69.99)
Turnigy Accucel-8 150W 7A Balancer/Charger (69.99)

Total to convert my HB Lightning Stadium Pro-R to brushless

~450.00

And I'm now faster than the 1/8th buggies with the high end .28 engines in them.

And if I wanted more powa, I could just get a higher kv rated motor as the 150a esc can easily handle a 3500+kv motor and 6s 40c batteries.
