Pictures of a Losi XXX-SCT Short Course Truck.
#181

I ran my truck at the local track for the first time. It was also my first time at a track ever. The truck did very well, and caught the eye of a few people who quickly recognized it wasn't your average SC10. It jumped surprisingly well, and even took a very good beating. I had the stock ESC dialed back a lot on the power and it was still plenty fast and could out run many on the straight when traction was good.
I was running the stock SC10 wheels and tires, and this was like showing up with a handicap. I now know I need some better tires, and will making that move soon. But what else can I do to get a bit more bite in the rear? When the track started to dry out, it was hard to put any power down without making it want to walk the rear out front.
Oh yeah, managed to break the right front a-arm at the hinge pin and bent the steering turn buckle as well. Pretty sure this was a result of trying to triple a section that no one else was doing. I came up a little short one time around without trying and it made me think I could perhaps clear it. Best I could do is nose into the face or case it. I've go the needed parts on order, as well as the Losi Desert Truck geared diff. I want to try that out and see what kind of results I can get. The ball diff has been difficult for me to tune.

This thread may have run its course. Not much activity on it in a while.
Wanted to report back that I installed the Losi Desert Truck gear diff in my conversion last night. Because I used a Speed T, I was able to use some parts from the orginal, but still needed the cases and full diff kit. It went together very easily. I didn't have any diff grease so used some Associated 40wt shock oil. No leaks yet and it runs really smooth. No weird noises or anything. The street in front of my house was wet from the rain, so it was hard to really tell how well it will perform when traction is good.
I've been having issues with the ball diff so I went this route as a experiment.

Well I know it's been a long time putting this thing together, but I got one step closer, I got all the electronics in it, check it out. All I have to do now is program the lipo cut off that I had to install, and setup a model in my radio, and I should be ready to take it out on it's maiden voyage.

Yea all have to break out my 4 year old brand new vidya camera,
oh I mean video camera, that I've only used one time to shoot some video of my costume ride.
Hey Erik, I will definitely let you know how it runs, I hope to have it out on the track in the next week or two.

Some of those sc10 parts work out ok, but guys the losi desert truck bumpers are drop ons.. and can make this project go along a lot faster and easier.. and not have to worry as much about breakage and replacing custom parts. I commented on another thread, and did see one project above done the easy way.. but the guys as CRC simply make an upper and lower extension plate for the rear end (pivot plate). Graphite works best, but aluminum would be ok if braced correctly. The front sc10 body mount shown prior would be the easiest to complete, but you could use a graphite bumper from a 1/12 scale car with a couple body posts... to accomplish the same thing, either works great.

i just got a good ol fashioned slash... it's not running nright now, i need batteries... gonna wait til i can afford to get a 10.5 brushless system and some lipos or 7 cell. If i do anything to it, it'll be the pro line suspension setup, which i understand changes the suspension geometry quite a bit. my 8th scale is where most of my money goes, and the short course will be something fun to mess with on wed nights when i'm off work. It'll make me a better 8th scale driver and let me save my buggy for the big races.
When are you going to get this thing out to SRS for some pro-2?

I decided not to use the rear one as well for the color reason, and also it does not have much of a actual rear bumper like the rest of the SCTs,and I really didn't like all the extra rear roll bar, which I didn't think would work to good with the SC body.
The rear body post mounts to the top of the cab, which also I didn't like, and it didn't seem like it would work to good with the SC body.
The way it mounts to the rear shock tower, would require you to use the DT/Speed T shock tower which is a lot lower and has less shock positions than the ST tower, which I did not like.
So any way bottom line is, if the rear looked like it would have work out, I would have been willing to except the Grey color, but since it did not, I didn't want the front Grey and the rear black.
Any way that's why I didn't go with the DT Bumpers.
